Trek Allant +7s owner having the itch to buy a 2nd ebike

I think you have me figured out all wrong. I do appreciate the Allant, it's well built it rides smooth and tight integration with battery and electronics and has good balance,, this is why I'd prefer not to build another bike, I just can't do it as well.. I still use my homemade ebike it's good for road use and not so much trail use, it was a fun project. And by the way the caliper brakes work very well, I agree disk may be better but it wasn't an option on that bike without a considerable expense.

I do wish the Allant had a throttle,, it's a useful tool in some situations. I do want to get exercise and don't plan on using throttle all the time.. I think every ebike should have a throttle, just my opinion.

Anyway, I'm not looking to get rid of my Allant, I'm looking to add to my collection -- however I don't want to spend as much. People are going to say well you get what you pay for and blah blah blah and that's true to a degree. But there are smaller companies that don't pay for advertising, they ship bikes partially assembled and they are not necessarily all crappy bikes they can be decent and replacement parts can be had.

I'm just seeking useful opinions and a few have provided that above which I appreciate. Some are just snarky comments that don't even offer any insight or value to the discussion. Other comments that say I should only go up in quality.... Well I'm 51 if I started off driving a Dodge Colt, then by that rationale I'd be up to a Lamborghini by now... well it's not in the budget. LOL

I’d just suggest getting something quite different, whether it’s more towards mountain or road from the Allant. My path was to add a road ebike to my gravel one. I literally decide when I walk into the garage which way I feel like going on a given day.

For that matter, you’re welcome to try either one of them sometime once the spring gets going... it doesn’t sound like we are all that far apart. Civante and a ToughRoad (which Giant has replaced with the Revolt, but same DNA).

My Dodge Colt was a 66 Triumph Spitfire... wouldn’t I love to have that one back!

Thank you, I may consider a road bike as i never had one before... I should because I ride on roads most of the time. Ride1up also has a cheap road bike belt drive I wonder how long that small batter would last.
It would be fun to meet up with other riders I go by myself most of the time, it would be nice to stop off for a beer at Coopers Cave if Covid hasnt shut them down permanently.

FWIW, these companies probably spend more on ads per bike sold than the big boys. It's the new cheaper brands - Juiced, Rad, Blix, Aventon, Ariel, M2S, Lectric et al that do lots of ads. I've seen Ride1Up ones as well.

When you parcel out what you're actually getting from these brands, the bang for buck isn't much higher - it's just that the big bike brands don't sell cheaper hub-drive models, and use higher quality parts with an effectively retail only solution (paying retail price for a mail order e-bike is like retail but worse).

Ride1Up bikes look like a great value. I'm about to order one myself. It will have a throttle, but if I already had a Trek Allant, I would be happy without the throttle. I regularly read the FB group for Ride1Up - looks like very many happy campers. They've introduced a line of mid-drive Brose system e-bikes with 28 mph pedal assist and NO throttle, but they won't be available for order until August.

Currently, I'm riding a Trek standard hybrid bike. It wasn't a good experience the one time I needed warranty service from the big Trek dealer who sold it to me - they didn't want to cover the repair at first, calling it wear and tear when the derailleur failed, but after some arguing, they put on a replacement. Since then, I just do my own service and repairs.

Intriguing bike but really a Fauza motor/battery? Fatten up that down tube a wee bit and give that beast a 500 watt battery and a full on CX motor.
