I don't often put my bike on the car , but from time to time there is a need to carry it to another place. I don't want to invest in a trailer hitch and accompanying rack unless that is the only way to do it. Does anyone have any experience with a trunk rack mounted on an SUV (Acura MDX)?

My take - I've seen a number of trunk racks fail with much lighter bikes. I wouldn't risk it. I actually had a friend drag is $3k mtb along the freeway at 60 when his trunk rack gave way.
Thank you...in the back of my mind, I kind of knew that this would be the case, but thought someone might have some experience with the trunk racks. I have all kinds of roof racks, both Thule and Yakima, but there is no way that I can hustle a 62 lb bike up top. Sounds like the only real choice is the trailer hitch route...thank you again!

I used my trunk rack to haul a fat bike and an Optibike Allroad for over 5 months. The straps always worried me. I was constantly tightening due to the weight of the bikes sagging the straps and the footprint of the rack slapping the back window of my Mini Cooper. The rack never failed but I was constantly watching for the pending crash. I then spent the time installing a receive hitch on the mini and purchased a platform rack...no more worries.

Thank you...have considered that possibility, especially so if get caught in inclement weather. The bike is new to me as are disc brakes and I have always had a QR mechanism on the front wheel and rear wheel, so this is a whole new ball game. I am not sure about removing the front wheel because I haven't done it yet; looks simple enough. I have also wondered which side to rest the back on; derailleur side or brake disc side? Either way it seems a little iffy to me?

+1. Best platform rack on the market...
Much better off if you can fit your exp Stromer upright in your SUV. You should get used to removing your front wheel.. Just in case you get a flat or something.. Just don't ever squeeze the front brake lever when the wheel is removed.. The pads will close and stay closed! Stick a spacer in there if you're worried abou that.. Bike shops sell them.
Lower or remove the seat and front wheel.. If you can stand your stromer upright inside your acura, Build an DIY bike rack with a block fork mount and 2x4s or a piece of plywood.. For less than $30 you'll have a secure and safe rack!

@JoePah how long does it take to load, unload, and get ready to ride with your method? It takes about 2 mins combined with the Kuat. Another min if I want to lock and unlock. I also don't have plywood and 2x4's in my cargo area to haul around. No tire marks or chain oil inside my car. Not sure I am aligned with 'better off'. I would say you would have weather protection inside the cargo box. Just personal preference I guess...cheers!
idk.. $500 for a bike rack you rarely use. Do you really want it on the back of your vehicle?
A lot more secure if you keep it inside your car... those of us with expensive bikes like that!
Idk where the grease is coming from.. You should use bio9 or some kind of wax based chain lube..
And the Plywood would keep your car protected and once you get into a routine it would take a couple of minute and you'd never worry about it getting stolen or dirty.
