Throttles and California

As of now 12 parents in Orange County, Southern California, have been charged with Reckless Child Endangerment for allowing their kids to ride eMotos on the streets. I currently have two members blocked and it is wonderful. It is so easy. Just click on their name and hit ignore.

Orange County seems pretty serious about it, they even charged the parents of a 13 year old who died riding his surron clone. Which seems harsh (hes dead, unless they are utter psychopaths they definitely regret giving it to him) but also giving a 13 year old a 12kw emoto that goes over 50mph is just breathtakingly stupid. Especially after he had been warned/charged multiple times before and had broken his leg already.

LA County prosecutors, too, and I'm all for it. The sooner the parents who fund e-motos for their kids get the message, the better. Ditto for the suppliers.

Saw a piece about it on an LA local news program just this morning. Refreshingly, the reporter and her expert were both quite careful to distinguish between legal ebikes and illegal e-motos and portray the e-motos as the main problem.

But what did the big banner across the bottom of the screen the whole time say? That it's an "ebike" problem.

A nice mom called today. She asked me if I could attach a rear wheel to her ten-year-old's bike. Instead of saying, Sure. I dug just a little deeper. It is a 3,000 Watt eMoto. For a fourth grader! I can't even pronounce the name of the brand.

This is the one the nice mom wanted me to finish assembly for her fourth grader son. I looked it up, it is actually 5 Kw, not 3. Why am I not seeing a licence plate in the mfg.'s Lisbon Portugal image? Or turn signals, when they are being marketing in North America?
They call them 'bikes' on the website. And show them doing wheelies. A wheelie on a BMX is not the same as with a powerful eMoto.
