Lack of posting about a bike may or may not be indicative of a bike having a problem. If a bike sells in high volumes, there may be more posts about problems but it might not mean there are more problems, just that lots more people have the bike. Also, in reading about problems consider whether the problem was solved or not. Any bike might have some kind of problem, but if the rider was able to get warranty parts and service and the problem was solved promptly, that is a good thing. (Take care that some warranties just cover parts and not service--look for the word "labor" in the warranty).
If you are able to test-ride a bike, I'd recommend it, over buying online, especially since you have some physical challenges. You might also want to get a "class 2" bike, which has a throttle, since you have leg weakness. The throttle will make it very easy to get the bike moving initially, even if you rarely use it for riding. The throttle is also great if the chain falls off because you can throttle on home. And, I find it essential for getting going on hills (I live in a very hilly area).
For some reason "class 1" mid-drive bikes get a lot of positive press, but mid-drives are not better than hub drives, they are just a different way to power a bike. I think they get lots of oohs and aahs because some think the experience is more "natural". It's true that when you ride a hub drive bike you can feel the assist kicking in. It's kind of like riding a tandem bike and feeling your cycling partner pedal. My daughter said, "It feels like mommy pedaling". It's a nice feeling to have that assist.
Good luck with your purchasing process. My only regret about getting my ebike is that I didn't get it sooner!!!
