The transition

Nope, we don't join in and exacerbate idiotic ventures that did not need to be created in the first place, thanks.
Also we need to clearly define what "self interest" is in this case. And I can make the argument that it is in all decent countries self interest to not touch this mess with a ten foot pole.

With the brains being larger and in charge of your balls.
Sad that the Iranians seem to be outsmarting him at every turn... and what was clearly obvious to the rest of the world.
Well c'mon, it isn't like they are up against the varsity here.

Liberals always whine about something; this gives them something unimportant to whine about.
I'm not a liberal, socialist, communist, democrat or republican... I'm an independent as I feel most correct answers or at least what is the greater good is in the gray.
This man is unequivocally a self centered total imbecile and how anyone can follow anyone, but especially him blindly is beyond my comprehension.

Oh yes... causing world-wide inflation is unimportant... uh huh...
Nicely done mate!
Nope, the Iranian response is the cause. Iran’s beef should be with the USA. The world should have a beef with Iran; their choice to sit back and whine.

US inflation isn't terrible, is the rest of world having inflation issues?

Back on topic. We're on the road and 2nd instance this year that convinced me EV might suck. This trip, I80 was closed because of an accident. Detour took us about 50 miles off highway; passed 3 stations that had gasoline and diesel, none had charging stations. In this case there would have been no charging stations in the closed section anyway, but what if your plan was to charge in the section that was closed on a highway that had charging stations on it?

1st instance was worse. We were heading to a lodge that has charging station. Because of a forest fire, there was a detour 7 miles before the lodge. Detour pointed north with no other indication when you got the highway back. Garmin reroute told us turn in X miles, every route blocked because of forest fire (no ondication of closed road on Google map route). Detour ended up being over 60 miles with zero fuel stations (or towns) the entire way. Ouch if it was my brother in his Tesla expecting to recharge in seven miles.

For you EVers, what is your minimum comfortable reserve before recharge when you are on a road trip? My brother's used to be 50. It's 100 now.

I'd make a few observations here:
  1. Even if an ICE driver doesn't perceive a charger, they might well exist. Not all chargers are at gas stations, and often the very best charging locations are not at gas stations. Usually you use an app like plugshare or Google Maps to figure out where to charge. Plugshare is also very helpful because they have very up-to-date information on both how busy a charger is and how well it is working (or not working).
  2. Interstate highway corridors, on the average, are very well covered with decent charging options. So if you knew about the detour you could charge opportunistically before you needed to be concerned. On I-90 from Seattle to about Billings you'd see decent charging opportunities at least every fifty miles or so. I-84 in Eastern OR is a little bit sparser. There is also a school of thought that argues for charging more frequently, because that can imply more very short stops as opposed to few longer ones -- this gets into geeky technical stuff about charging curves. I honestly don't worry too much and have had zero problems.
  3. If you are driving in highly variable situations (e.g. due to weather or wildfires) in remote areas you learn to carefully manage your available range. That is true if you burn dinosaurs or electrons. A good rule of thumb in those cases is to top up when the opportunity arises and stay in the top half of your available range. Again a person with a functioning brain does exactly that no matter how the vehicle is fueled. Don't ask me how I know this.
I'd also observe that any detour that would take you that far off an interstate most likely implies that there are very few (or zero) services in the section of the interstate that is shut down anyway. And if the detour bypasses a town it is safe to bet that you can get to the town somehow. And those extra miles probably won't cost you what the detour already is costing you in travel time and miles.

Where charging and route planning get challenging is when you get outside of the interstates and major highway corridors. The big risk there is not strictly a lack of chargers, but you are probably stuck with much less reliable chargers and slower chargers.

In fact, when I think about it, you have to get about 75 miles from my house before you find a DCFC that is at someplace that sells you fossil fuels.

So first the POS you voted in shut down everything green possible... and now you want to use as an argument that there isn't enough green infrastructure. Then let us prioritize dated and without a doubt unsustainable energy sources, pollution and gilding our surroundings while putting our name on everything.
Just imagine what could be if this was approached as the space race, the cold war or WWII.
I don't think I could ever get my head far enough up an a$$ to reason with this with this lot.

... there isn't enough green infrastructure.
The irony is that that green infrastructure is getting built out whether the Gray Eminences in charge want it or not. Because it works and it makes economic sense.

Wal-Mart is aggressively building out its own EV charging network at its stores and plans to eventually have them at all of their stores. Because they make money both selling electrons and because people will go into Wal-Mart and buy stuff while their car is charging. And Wal-Mart corporate uses EVs to move executives between stores.

I have a hard time imagining Wal-Mart doing all that unless they smelled money. Certainly they aren't virtue signaling.

Just imagine all the good that could have been done with the billions he sunk into useless or botched projects, from wars, to monuments to his glorious person, to no bid contracts leading to failure...
And this is not even mentioning the billions he made pardoning criminals, conning average Americans with his personal scams or monetizing insider trading and personal favors to enrich himself and his family....

So if you knew about the detour you could charge opportunistically before you needed to be concerned.

Again a person with a functioning brain does exactly that no matter how the vehicle is fueled. Don't ask me how I know this.
I agree it's easy to plan for knowns. These were both short notice detours that were not on Google Maps (yet) when we got to them. The first one appeared about 20 minutes into our trip on the detour so we could figure out where we could get back on.

The forest fire detour didn't show up on Google Maps for 2 days after we got to destination; trying to figure out if we would be delayed heading back out in a few days. To complicate it a bit more, most of the detour was out of cell service range, so no Google (thus the reason we use a Garmin instead (along with paper maps)).

Seriously, do you think any of them are any less corrupt.
Trump is their handy bogeyman.
They all pretend to fight for your cause while banking your gullibility.
