IDK but I think that's what they have to use for high speed rail.

With the current , very divisive political climate they will never do any big serious infrastructure changes in US inlcuding a high speed rail.

Ex.: the new Gateway tunnel Ny-Nj is been in talks for 10+years, another 10 to fund it amd design it and another 20to build it . It's in the 2trillion $ plan but that is just words

How long is that stuff, a 1/4 of a mile? Seen it on "flatcars" before. I suppose there have to be expansion joints here and there and perhaps the "weight is different( maybe even the alloy?)

Wikipedia says a quarter mile long pieces butt welded together at least in the USA.
