What is the experience of taking the battery off and traveling with bike on rear mounted rack. What is done to prevent rain from getting in battery compartment and doing damage to electric contacts?

If it is Bosch powered , they make 2 covers made out of like wetsuit material. One for covering the motor and one where the battery plugs in at the bottom. I got mine at Motostrano.com. in Redwood City , California.
I haven't worried abut the battery cradle. Mine is just a two pin plug. More important to put plastic bags around the LCD, throttle, and any push buttons. A long car ride in the rain will push water everywhere for a bike on a rack.
