Stromer app / battery consumption measurement

Does anyone know how accurate the power consumption data is within the Stromer OMNI and app?

I ask because yesterday I did a 36 mile ride, heavy uphill and downhill, variety of assist levels as well as varying levels of regen going downhill...rarely even touched the brakes and pedaled downhill in the highest level of regen at times. I started at 100% according to the display and the app. Afterwards the app said I had consumed .69 kWh of battery, so 690 Wh. I regenerated about 8% during the downhill portions of the ride, according to the OMNI display. At the end of the ride my battery was at 20% according to the OMNI. I have the 983Wh blue battery, so that would mean there were 197Wh left in the battery. 690 + 197 = 887. So I am missing about 96Wh of battery, without accounting for the approximately 8% of regen, i.e. +/-78Wh. Therefore it looks like I am missing about 174Wh of battery capacity somewhere. About 18% of the total battery capacity.

The battery has 25 charge cycles and is under warranty for a long time still. I don't want to make an issue of it if it is just some kind of measurement error. But if the battery is actually 18% weaker than it should be, that is certainly a valid issue. Any thoughts appreciated.

I am on a 2016 ST2S that I have owned however only since May. If the app didn't tell me I had only consumed 690 Wh for the ride, I would not have thought twice about having 20% left. It was only when I started doing the math that I began to wonder. Also, I paid fairly close attention to how much regen I got back. (It is a lot of fun going down steep hills without needing to touch your brakes!) Thanks for the info on your ride.

JayVee: I noticed that too, which made me more curious about what was going on. The battery is definitely blue and definitely says 983. I am going to try the charge test, thanks for recommending it.

Wow, JayVee. You’re like Sherlock Holmes.

Quantum Leap, what model and year Stromer are you riding? My 2016 ST2 with the 983Wh battery used 85% of capacity over similar terrain on a 39 mile ride when it was new. This was in the Santa Barbara hill country with lots of climbing, miles of non-pedaled regen back down to the ocean, and riding against the northerly wind in level 3 for the last 10 mile stretch home. Pretty close to your numbers. I finished with 15% left in the battery. My riding partner finished with 30%, doing the entire ST2 ride on level 2. I’d say your results are typical of my experience, even if the OMNI numbers don’t add up.

Update...the battery is definitely ok and definitely 983. Range is actually slightly better than expected, maybe 10%. The only possible explanation for the issue described in my original post is a measurement error in battery consumption on the part of the Stromer app. This is consistent with other observed measurement errors within the app, e.g., daily rides not logged correctly. None of this is a deal-breaker, the bike rides and performs wonderfully, just good to know not to worry about discrepancies in power consumption as reported by the app.
