Starting off

Sorry if this is a daft question, when pedalling off should Eco be on or off? My husband says it should be off until I've got going properly as it uses alot of battery. I thought I could use Eco from the off without it using alot of battery, hubby says it's because I'm starting off from a standing start?

Thanks for your help

Perhaps one of the best features of an eBike is its use in taking off from a standstill and how it allows you to get up to speed. It is important to switch to a lower gear before stopping however to keep the amount of power the bike will use to a minimum and also strain on the drivetrain to get going.

I use a quick burst from the throttle
It is a Specialized forum. No Specialized e-bike has a throttle.

To the OP question: It is proper to use e-bike in the powered state, and there is no meaning to ride if OFF without some well defined reason. Default Specialized assistance mode for Turbo e-bikes is Sport (Level 2) not without reason: to start the ride at higher acceleration.

That's a shame as it's the best use of one especially if you have to stop in a high gear.

Interesting idea but I don't have three hands.
It was something more easily accomplished with my old non-motorized (in other words LIGHTER) road bike.
I do try to remember to shift as I approach a stop sign or traffic light. But occasionally miss the opportunity and have to use the legs and gut to get it moving once the light changes and my old joints don't appreciate the grunting needed.

Seriously? So if my bike weighs 10lbs more than yours and you weigh 10lbs more than I do...............
I stand on the ground with both legs, straddling the frame. I press the shifter all the way down and I can remove my hand from the shifter (my Shimano shifter knows it is my intention to shift three gears down). I lift the saddle with my right hand slightly to lift the rear wheel and then depress the Walk mode button with left hand thumb. E-bike does the shifting itself.

It does not work with a hub-motor, and is difficult with a very heavy e-bike. Can be done with any most of current Specialized ebikes. (Creo is too expensive for a Walk mode!) :D

I don't think my Creo has a walk mode. Unless I get off and push it while walking! ;)

Sounds like fun but I'll stick with a little burst of throttle which also gets me going and I never need concern myself with downshifting prior to a stop. As I said it's a shame Specialized does not offer one as it's a very handy accessory. I'm sure it can't be a cost problem as one can buy an Ebike with a throttle for under $1000 USD. I'm guessing Specialized is a bit more than that.

Yes, for more money you get less features and less weight!

"It would be shame for cycling to use the throttle."

Why would that be a shame for cycling while a motor is not?

When you are cycling Gordon, you are expected to pedal. Any "e-bike" equipped with a throttle becomes a scooter (even if you pretend pedalling). Just see for yourself: You seem to be unable to start from a junction without using the throttle. In Europe, "cycling" is understood as the pedalling thing, hence no throttle is allowed in Europe. And millions of EU e-bikes can do without the throttle. (For your better understanding: Specialized e-bikes are designed in Switzerland).
