Sondors Fat V.2 - No power - just a pop sound

The Fat Bike is just making a pop sound when you push the throttle. The controller is a little warm and it seems like the sound is coming from inside there. Is there anyway to know if the problem is the controller for sure? The bike is only a month old but it's been ridden on a lot of hills and in the rain.

Get ahold of Sondors would be my suggestion. There are also some online support sites that are set up by other Sondors owners you can google about.

@Brian-858, controllers can get a little warm; however, they shouldn't be making popping sounds. I hesitate to say without a doubt that this is the only problem but it's a good start. The Sondors bike doesn't have a very large motor so it's possible that some steep hills would cause the motor to try to pull more current through that controller than it was designed to handle. A lack of pedaling will also wear down components faster and occasionally, a new component just isn't up to standard and fails. That's what your warranty is for and JRA is correct, contact the Sondors team or even better, find a local ebike shop- they can diagnose what is going on with your bike whether they sell Sondors products or not.

The bike is in Colombia and my friend had 3 electronic techs look at it. They all say it's the throttle and not the controller. I'm going to bring down a controller and my throttle next week and start swapping parts.

@Brian-858 , a controller can blow a throttle when there's a power surge or short through the controller that affects that circuit, so you would need both. The real question still stands as to why this happened. As I noted before, this is a pretty small motor and riding conditions or load on the Sondors bike could affect the performance or overload this simple controller, conditions which you have not clarified.

I would really suggest that you take along an additional diagnostic tool, one of the Cycle Analyst consoles by GRIN Technologies that you can get from ebikes.ca. If not, then at least spend some time on their Troubleshooting page which has several easy to do tests for throttles, brushless motors and defective Hall sensors. The first two are probably the most important for this trip. Keep us updated; would really like to know what was the issue!
