It could be worse...I guess I just found it odd to see boots in the middle of sidewalks, and dayum... not even a matched pair!
Hollywood.
Portland.

OK... yeah... ya got me...
You Toe-tally nailed it. Classic tune. Thanks for taking me back to the 70s, Dave! Some great Cdn bands during that decade…The Guess Who, April Wine, Trooper, and perhaps one group that might be closer to your heart and home…..Chilliwack.Cheers Art!
Usually I like to think most of my photos are a bit more... um... scenic...

And... regarding washed up appendages... here's a Canadian band called "A Foot in Cold Water"...

Dave, sorry to read about your crash, but on the bright side your Garmin only thinks your 65 1/2 years old. Crashing at our age (I hit 68 in July) is not a lot of fun. It’s been 5 weeks since I went down hard and I still have a sore shoulder and some sore fingers. I had vital circulatory fluid oozing out of multiple sites, always amazes me how well the body heals though. Hope that you managed to have a good birthday aside from your biking incident.Well dang it...
The past few days have either been a seriously sore back or crappy weather, but... yesterday I turned 68, and the weather was beautiful, and my back felt way better, so...
I wanted to try riding my age in kms.
Great idea, but ended with a crash, so came up a bit short. Oh well...
I left on a familiar route to Tynehead, but rode right passed it...
Tripped over this dilapidated outbuilding...
Took the little path on the right, which kept be heading East on 96th Ave in Surrey...
St. Oswald's church in Port Kells from 1911...
Dayum... that's cool!
Turned South on 200th street in Langley and came across Das Lonely Boot...
Didn't take but one block later for the other shoe to drop...
Going as far as the eye can see, and beyond...
Then turned West on 32nd Ave to head back to Surrey. There was construction along this road, and a couple of spots were dicey at best. No sidewalk, lots of traffic, big trucks...
Back in South Surrey...
Colebrook road... getting closer...
At 58kms I stopped at this familiar spot at the entrance to Watershed Park for some well needed water and Nuun.
3kms later I came to a familiar intersection, slowed down to get on the sidewalk and hit the crosswalk button. Thing is I blew it.
I felt myself leaning too far right, went to dab my right foot down at 1 or 2 kms speed and there was nothing there, so down I went and I went down hard. Bounced my head off the pavement, dented the helmet!
Took me a few seconds to get back up again, and then a minute or so to get my schlitz back together again. Dayum... The audience was entertained at least... Nice guy hopped out of his car and helped me right the bike etc. No machinery was harmed in the buffoonery, and I found my phone a few feet away.
The final 3 or 4kms were filled with grunts and groans interrupted by numerous expletives. Decided to just go home and lick my wounds instead of doing the 68...
Happy birthday dumba$$ Lol!

Sweet lid Dave. A couple of buddies wear Smith helmets. Not only do they boast some of the best protection around they also look stylish. Decent number of vents too. Is that the hand held remote shown in the images for the heads up display.New Lid Day!
Decided on a Smith Engage 2 helmet. MIPS, super comfy, and hoping I don't dent this sucker!
I think that's for the over-the-horizon radar and targeting system.Sweet lid Dave. A couple of buddies wear Smith helmets. Or how about a Minority Report integration so I can avoid my next dumba$$ maneuver...I think that's for the over-the-horizon radar and targeting system.
Problem solved. You can thank me the next time you have a biff.Or how about a Minority Report integration so I can avoid my next dumba$$ maneuver...

Sounds and looks like your having the time of your life.It takes a Village
After several days of sweaty inland hills, I decided to treat myself to an easy coast ride north to Carlsbad Village, just to poke around. The Village is Carlsbad's town center.

First stop was my turnaround just past the Village at Buena Vista Lagoon, Carlsbad's northern boundary with Oceanside. The lagoon's mostly a tidal wetland. The Coast Highway crosses it on a causeway at far left in the upper photo.

This pleasant little park's a nice spot to relax to the birdsong coming up from the wetland. Over 500 bird species call San Diego County home — more than any other county in the US by a factor of two.

As you might imagine, the new Vado SL becomes a total chick magnet the moment I get off.

This sign at the gate to the pedestian crossing into the Village train station isn't kidding. The COASTER commuter train always stops here, but the Amtrak Surfliner always barrels right through at 60+ mph, horn blaring.

Oceanside and San Diego proper are full of great murals. This one across from the station is one of the few in Carlsbad.

This bench at the foot of Carlsbad Village Drive is another nice spot to chill on a gorgeous fall afternoon. The stairs lead down to Carlsbad City Beach, a tourist favorite. (Stopped this shot down to cut the glare off the water.)
Fall's my favorite time here — not least because the tourists are largely gone and the kids are back in school.

Tamarack Beach. The Coast Highway isn't always right next to the water, but it is from the Village to southernmost Carlsbad. Never tire of the uninterrupted ocean views as I pedal south here.
A liitle farther south, the road passes a dozen or so volleyball courts on Carlsbad State Beach. On this afternoon, all were full of school kids playing matches — perhaps some kind of league — as the coastal SoCal equivalents of soccer moms and dads looked on.
Would've been a nice photo, but I was having too much fun pedaling to stop.

For geographic context, Carlsbad (outlined) occupies the 7 miles of shoreline between Buena Vista Lagoon on the north and Bataquitos Lagoon on the south. Goes a similar distance inland, too — and gets very hilly fast as soon as you leave the shore. We even have our own little submarine canyon.

Graag gedaan meneerDave,
