Sena R1 general comments

Didn't want to waste any more of the biking season waiting on the R1 Evo to get back in stock so pulled the trigger for two R1's for the Mrs. and I.

Got a chance to give them a good workout last weekend.
First off my wife was kinda mad I spent that kind of money on helmets and wasn't sure so wanted to be distracted on her ride.

That changed in the first mile of the ride!

1. The sound quality is good! You can clearly hear the other person and their is no wind noise, etc. all the while being able to hear surrounding noises.

2. The range was excellent. We got one little crackle when I was way ahead and riding the horse trail in thick trees. I'm guessing I was further than the 900 meter range and in the woods when it crackled. It didn't drop the connection, just a crackle for a brief second.

3. You don't have to push any buttons once it's setup, just talk whenever you feel like it.

4. I wore it by myself and didn't think I would be too interested in the music aspect. But when on tar trails just out to spin the pedals I love it.

My wife now things these things are the best thing since sliced bread! We are very happy with them!

We also received and started using a pair about 2 weeks ago. My wife was not adverse to them, and we have enjoyed them like you guys are. Have never found their range to be lacking and clarity is great.

I did find out that my wife likes to whistle when she rides. D'oh! So we boot them up, and immediately go into FM radio mode. Then intercom speech is just one button press away whenever we want it, and the radio comes right back on with another button press if the whistling starts.

Even with the radio on I find that I can still hear traffic, which is especially useful as we come up to a certain blind "T" intersection where we have the stop.

Set up was relatively easy except for setting the radio station pre-sets, which took me a few tries. We never change the station while riding however, nor do we have them hooked up to phones or any other bluetooth devices.

Haven't noticed any odd sounds coming out of my wife...yet.
Glad to hear you are enjoying them as much as we are.

I bought the Sena X1's for my wife and I two years ago. My wife is a very social person and never really enjoyed the solitary aspect of bike riding. Consequently, she often chooses not to go with me when I ride. The Sena's changed all that and she now joins me more times than not. She originally was against the purchase price but now considers it well worthwhile.

I'm considering upgrading to the R1 Evo's mainly for the convenience of the voice command feature and extended range.

That is exactly my experience as well! My wife complained about the cost of a pair of them. Now she tells everyone about them!
She is very social as well!

She really appreciated it yesterday! I gave her a heads up on the Shemar Moore look alike jogging at us---shirtless!
