I found this new mid-drive very interesting!

“The main advantage of our system is the ‘seamless’ torque sensor which can detect the real pedalling power which makes the motor to operate accordingly,” says Jason Mok of Homemade Industrial. “Our mid-drive technology already obtained a patent EP2384961.”
Weight sensitive
Another important characteristic of the mid motor system with seamless torque sensor is that when you lift the rear wheel and turn the pedals, the motor will not run because it is neither a pulse signal torque sensor nor a speed sensor.
As the sensors are not located in the crank or the bottom bracket you must ride on the bike and pedal it before the motor will be activated. The bike senses the total weight and the real power the rider puts on the pedals.
As a result the motor the operates normally when you ride for example on a flat road at 15 km/h and you weight is 70 kilograms. However if you put on an additional load of 40 kilograms and you ride it on the same flat road at same speed of 15km/h, the motor adds more power.
