As you probably know many ebikes are availabe on AliExpress and Alibaba.

American ebike companies are not manufactures, they're more like dealer (or middle person) between Chinese factory and consumers.
There are few exceptions like NCM (German) that design and manufacture their own hub motors (DAS-BOOT), frames, wheels, etc. They are very popular in Europe and USA is catching on. It seems everything in the eBike market is Chinese or Japanese made, but if you look around, they aren't the only players who have had success. The Chinese were very clever during the 70s and 80s...they offered to manufacture everything imaginable to the world...at 1/4 the cost to any company...but with a catch. In exchange for cheap Chinese labor, they wanted the rights to keep the design of those products. So when people say the Chinese have been stealing our technology...NO, it was given to them by greedy companies (by agreement) in exchange for their cheap labor. Everybody made a lot of $$. Then all they had to do was reverse-engineer those designs and start manufacturing their own stuff ever since....and now they can thumb their noses back at us.

I think many consumers are lured by the illusion of what they are buying is a unique product by the company branding it. This has been going on for years, starting mostly in consumer electronic goods and clothing. Point is, branding only makes sense (for consumers) if they maintain a USA customer service presence. To me, the hub driven cheaper ebikes make sense. They are simply accoustic bicycles with bolt on ebike components. Components are now pretty available on ebay, amazon etc. and not expensive. Repairs are part replacement. Hopefully more folk understand this, pull the trigger and get out riding.

I wouldn't go that far and say consumers are being lured.

Yes, there are companies that pretend as if they actually "designed" or "engineered" the bike.

But I found that most ebike companies are very upfront about it.

They're just a middle person between US consumers and Chinese factory, and they're bikes are simply rebranded Chinese bikes.

A lot of American ebike companies show on their YouTube channel how their bikes are being manufactured in China.

Actually I said "lured by the illusion", perhaps assumption would have been a better word to use. Although I agree most "branding companies " don't lie about where the product comes from they are not overt either. Although I am new to eBike ownership I have been researching it since the Sondors controversy, when was that? I remember assuming Rad Bikes were a group of guys trying to build bikes to keep up with increasing demand. Did they specifically say that in their early ad campaign? No. Did they inform that they were selling Chinese bikes in their ad's? They might have but I missed it. If you have an example please share. But here is the real deal....I have zero problem with product from China or Branding companies for that matter. I just think that if a consumer understands how the game is played they can make more informed choices. Informed choices often equate in big savings, be it up front or over the lifetime of a quality item.

There are some companies that do change some part of the design so you must buy replacement parts from them. Things like a proprietary protocol language between the display and the controller is something that Sondors does. But that can be over ridden if you buy a replacement generic display and controller. But often connectors then can become an issue.

I stumbled upon this while looking for street tires for my XP. Taking a quick glance I noticed the controller and suspension forks but the paint job doesn't look as good to me. What else do you notice or like/not like about this Samebike as your XP?
Cheaper pedals, not as good a rack, the headlight looks even crappier than ours (good for 2 meters so even the bikes are social distancing) and they also cheaped out on the display...all these benefits for $1700-1800 cdn!
When you see deals like this it helps to understand why Lectric has been such a success. As for the waiting for bikes, you would wait the same or later for a bike from Aliexpress/Alibaba and it usually won't be as good a bike as the XP and you won't have a phone number to call if you have a problem with the bike.

Stick with Lectric for all the reasons mentioned above.

Just do research based on how much you want to spend and what features you want. Buy from a reputable source who will honor the warranty. Since this is your first E-bike just get a Lectric XP if you want the best bang for your buck and good customer service.

只需根据您想要花费多少以及您想要什么功能进行研究。从将履行保修的信誉良好的来源购买。由于这是您的第一辆电动自行车,如果您想要物超所值和良好的客户服务,只需购买 Lectric XP。
