Replacement Chain

My 2018 Dirt E is getting to the point where the chain needs to be replaced. The specs says that the OEM chain is a KMC x.10e eBike optimized. Now from what I can see the eBike optimized chains are around $80 (Cdn) whereas the same conventional chain (Shimano for example) is anywhere from $30-$50.

Is this marketing or is there an appreciable difference?

Thanks in advance

they are made to last under the higher torque. I just replaced mine trying out a Shimano chain. though it comes with a pin and not a quick link.

I have the same exact stock chain (KMC- X10e). Just for extra protection, I plan on replacing it with the same one that is E-bike rated. However, there was a bike mechanic on YT that challenged the higher torsion chain to a conventional no stretch one, and the results were surprising. The conventional chain performed quite well under stressed conditions. More points to ponder.
