Have any of you registered your bikes? If so, where did you register?
And are there any real benefits to registering? For example did it help recover a stolen bike? Thanks
I wouldn't do it unless it was required under local ordinance. Waste of money doesn't help recovery. Record the serial number, keep the invoice proving purchase and if it's stolen it is doubtful anyone but you will care. The police have better things to do and won't bother to enter a recovered bike's serial number and the incentive is to sell it at the auction after the required period of time has passed so they can use the auction proceeds. You are responsible to check thier recovery yard on a regular basis prior to the auction and report and prove a recovered item is yours. It's a real longshot.
Lock your bike with a quality lock when unattended, keep it in sight as best you can. Try not to leave it unattended for very long. If you're in NYC don't leave it at all cause the thieves will take it lock or no lock.
Oh, and your insurance if you have coverage will have a $1000 deductible that won't cover the cost of the bike after depreciation. Sorry, live in a high theft area so been down that road a few times, I'm a bit jaded.
