rear axle protective caps

I found a rubber lug-nut cap on the street. At 18mm, it fits both my bikes.

Amazon has 18mm caps for certain VWs. They're $5 for a box of 20. The one I found sticks out 27mm, while the VW ones stick out only 20mm, which should be plenty for a bike.

My second e-bike came with nut caps on the axle.

The one on the derailleur side has a hole cut through the side to feed the motor cable through.
It has to be fed along the cable to get it on the nut.

Water can travel along the motor cable and get inside motor, so I put silicone and grease in the axle and filled the axle cap and stuck it in place.

The grease mixed with the silicone allows me to remove the cap and silicone.

The way I figure it, (a Vado induced observation 😁) is that the air inside the motor gets hot, then when it starts to rain, the motor cools off and creates a vacuum inside the motor.

Any water that's been wicked along the motor cable can get sucked into the motor.

So now my motor will suck grease and silicone inside, instead of water. 😁

You can get a complete axle nut & cap kit for five bucks.

I don't know if the kit has the hole in the side of the one cap for the cable, but you could cut a hold in it to make it fit.
Then glue it on. 😂

I found a rubber lug-nut cap on the street. At 18mm, it fits both my bikes.

That mighta fallen off an e-bike?

I lost mine once, (the cap from the other side) but it fell off inside the house, and I managed to find.

So I glued it on. 😁

On my way Radmission, the end of the axle is 11mm out from the flange of the nut. The one I found allows 24mm. I imagined it was a lug nut cap that came off from hitting something or vibration. Maybe it wasn't for a wheel. At Amazon I had better luck searching for "18mm nut cap."

My Abound came with acorn nuts on the axles. They do the trick with no extra piece to lose.

My first ebike came with acorn nuts on the axle.

It's got a rear MXUS hub motor, and the motor cable comes out the opposite side.

The motor has a solid axle and is a Way better design than the Bafang with its hollow drilled out axle.

Bafang decided to take the Most Critical connection point on an ebike, where all the forces of the motor, human pedal power, and all the road bumps get transfered into the frame, Then drill a Big Hole through the center of the axle. ???

That's just stupid !! 🤔 🙄 🤦

I just bought a Bafang mid-drive motor.
I think I'm gunna take it apart so I can drill out the drive shaft.😁
