Range Extender Turbo Vado SL

Oh, that's right. The RE also comes with a heavy duty rubber band to secure it in the water bottle cage.
The rubber band is to secure the top cable plug against falling out from the socket.

Oh, something I raised in another post - my instructions (Creo, only??) mentioned a spacer or grommet or something to place between the bike and cage for the top bolt. It did not come with such spacer and no reason for its need was suggested. Anyone?
No spacer on my Vado SL either. Probably meant to further dampen the vibration but none on my bike.

What is probably not obvious to the people who have not use a RE, the cable locks into the charging port with a rotating latch. If the RE bounces loose out of the cage it could be much worse than a water bottle bouncing loose.

I think the spacers depend on the water bottle bosses. Maybe the carbon frame version of Creo needs a spacer?

There was a bag of unused parts that came with my Creo CC. I found a spacer in the bag and used it when I installed the RE bottle holder. Somebody smarter than me suggest that the spacer I used was to install a fender. I don’t have a fender on my bike but if I add one later, I know where the spacer is. If that happens, I can always stack a few black washers between the bottle holder and the frame boss.
There are multiple theories why the spacer is needed. I have no idea which one is correct.

Yes, I had checked my spare parts and there was NO spacer. How thick is it? Spare parts: I can change my Future Shock springs, I can wedge open the disc brakes and there's this small wrench thing someone said may be for something in the headset. I could have used some extras of those little rubber plugs that fill in the Kickstand holes - maybe only the aluminum has an attachment point for a kickstand. What are some of those theories? :)

Our bikes came with said spacers but I found that the cages sit more solidly when attached without them. It raises them up by 1/4". I seem to recall they were only on the seat tubes and wonder if they have anything to do with the heavier RE attached to those specific mounting points.

Thanks for the picture and thanks for using Imperial measurements :) .

Good luck thread - two hours after reading it I received an email from Specialized online telling me the RE was available for shipping. Completed the order with the 220mm cable. Should arrive in the next 7 days.

Not in the US catalog. Only things that show up in a search are the two cables. Got a link

Yes but I’m in Japan 😉

My brother-in-law was shopping for one locally for his Creo until I advised him to use Specialized’s search function to locate the nearest unit. Says that there are only 6 in stock at various shops across Canada five of which are in BC. The price for the RE has increased $ 125 Cdn since purchasing mine almost year ago. I guess you could always order one from a BC shop and have them drop ship it to Points Robert. Would make for a nice day trip. :)

I never saw them listed on the US Specialized website when I was looking for mine about 6 months ago. I got mine through my LBS who ordered it for me. Back then I think the lead time was about 8 weeks but likely different today.

Yes, I knew where you were. Thanks for the link - about $480 or so.

That is what I found somewhat incongruous when in China. All those fascinating Chinese characters on signs but "English" phone numbers! (g)

I guess Point Roberts could use the visitors. But that would mean crossing the border at Blaine, crossing into Pt Roberts, crossing back into Canada and then back into the US. I think I'd get stripped searched!!! I recall the time I was at a conference at Semiahmoo and visited MEC for a purchase or two and then back. I got the third degree about the nature of my BRIEF trip!!

Then, bike related, another time I was at that same resort for another conference and bike rode to White Rock for lunch. I had on a bike jersey and shorts and nothing on the bike. Coming into Canada the officer also gave me the third degree. What was I planning? What was I bringing into Canada, How long was I staying. Did I have any weapons? And why my license photo showed a beard and I no longer had one??? It was the strangest border crossing!!!

So I might just pass on a quick trip north. But we do want to hit the Vancouver Art Museum again and MEC is always a treat (even if they sold out!)

Crossings are such fun. Coming back from back country skiing at Lake Louise, we came to the border and asked why in Canada? Skiing. He then asked why two of us had three pairs of skis. Shock on our faces as there were FOUR sets of skis. Heavier duty and lighter. But his miscount was amusing although we did not say anything other than FOUR!

And yet another time coming back. Stopped, asked usual questions and then a final one. Do you always drive with one headlight out? You really want to be smug but bite your tongue. "Oh, thanks, I have a spare in the glove compartment!

I've got more on flights back....

Ugh, it might not be worth the hassle by the sounds of it. It’s been a while since I’ve crossed the border but I do recall a number of years ago never having a problem when I made a specific trip down to Issaquah to take delivery of a new seakayak. The entire process was trouble free and I never felt like I was being interrogated. In fact, the agents didn’t even bother removing the cockpit/hatch covers to see if I was stashing any goods inside the boat….which I wasn’t.

My BIL just purchased one from Gerick Cycle in Nelson, BC for $570 Cdn shipped to his door.

I remember Nelson, nice little town. I believe we spent the night at the Hostel. I just checked a few semi-local shops online: OUT OF STOCK.
