Quick Question: Specialized Turbo $2999 CAN - good deal?

Hi! My LBS is selling a Specialized Turbo for $2999 CAN marked down from $4100. I realize there are new Specialized models coming out soon with a hub motor rather than a rear-wheel motor but I'm not very picky and would rather save money if there's a deal is to be had.

I'm also open to building a bike from a kit - that's a discussion for another thread - but if it's easy to build a bike with superior performance to a Turbo for a lot less money I'm happy to go that route as well.

So quick questions - should I buy it, keep looking, or build something instead?

Thanks!

$2999 CAN is about $2275 USD, so this is a good deal. The same bike would be $2500 at retail in the US.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. The Turbo is a nice bike. It's not super powerful, but it's smooth and predictable.

Hey @mattcass, did you end up buying one of the Turbo models? It looks like Specialized is moving towards a mid-drive for their road bikes in 2017 so they're probably liquidating a lot of the hub motor systems (even though they look great and are super quiet), could be a great chance to find one before they're gone. I like the Turbo X best because it had suspension but the new Vado appears to have suspension on all models. Here are some pictures from another post :)

If you can buy from your local shop that would be the best way to get support but also a good deal. I find that they usually toss in an accessory or some number of free tuneups and that's especially useful with ebikes since they tend to get ridden more.
