Quick Question: Specialized Turbo $2999 CAN - good deal?

Hi! My LBS is selling a Specialized Turbo for $2999 CAN marked down from $4100. I realize there are new Specialized models coming out soon with a hub motor rather than a rear-wheel motor but I'm not very picky and would rather save money if there's a deal is to be had.

I'm also open to building a bike from a kit - that's a discussion for another thread - but if it's easy to build a bike with superior performance to a Turbo for a lot less money I'm happy to go that route as well.

So quick questions - should I buy it, keep looking, or build something instead?

$2999 CAN is about $2275 USD, so this is a good deal. The same bike would be $2500 at retail in the US.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. The Turbo is a nice bike. It's not super powerful, but it's smooth and predictable.

Hey @mattcass, did you end up buying one of the Turbo models? It looks like Specialized is moving towards a mid-drive for their road bikes in 2017 so they're probably liquidating a lot of the hub motor systems (even though they look great and are super quiet), could be a great chance to find one before they're gone. I like the Turbo X best because it had suspension but the new Vado appears to have suspension on all models. Here are some pictures from another post

If you can buy from your local shop that would be the best way to get support but also a good deal. I find that they usually toss in an accessory or some number of free tuneups and that's especially useful with ebikes since they tend to get ridden more.
