Pedal resistance on Stromer ST1

I recently bought a Stromer ST1 in the hopes that technology would overcome advancing arthritis in the hilly area where I live. I greatly enjoy the bike but haven't figured out the right pedaling style to get in synch with the motor. Frequently it feels as if the motor is resisting the pedaling; my dealer suggested shifting to higher gear and pedaling faster but that's not a reliable solution. Has anyone else encountered and solved this?

It sounds like your bike is set to regen mode. I had mine turned on inadvertently a while back and it was an unpleasant ride. Follow the instructions attached and see if that makes a difference:

Hope it works for ya!
As for your dealers suggestion of shifting to a higher gear and pedaling faster, that's absurd!

I wanted to avoid any back pressure, that is why I went with the old fashioned pedalec design. Did you have it on regeneration mode?
