Overseas bought EnergyPak compatibility

I'm considering buying an Explore E+ with the idea of eventually touring Japan on it. Since flying with a battery is problematic, would an equivalent battery sold there work with an overseas bought bike?

This is the EnergyPak Sidepull 500 battery that's available in Japan and is intended for the Escape RX-E+.

Which Explore E+ are you considering ?
Not all models are 500 Battery compatible ; i.e. , e+4 . (USA)

Looks like your in Australia .

Where in Japan are you planning on touring ?
Depending on where , the Escape RX E+bike is cheap to rent .

I'm looking at the Explore E+ 1 in Australia. Hiring a bike in Japan is certainly a possibility, although I already have a regular bike kept there and tour all over so I thought a battery would work out easier and cheaper in the long term. It might be possible to hire a battery, but the compatibility issue still needs to be confirmed.
