Ortlieb Sport-Roller City

I'm having a bit of an issue trying to figure out if these panniers will work on the rear of my bike. They are listed as being for children's bikes and front racks. I want a modest size pannier for my rear rack. My Cannondale Contro-e Speed says the rear rack is designed for the Ortlieb QL-3 system. These are listed as being QL-1. From all I can tell, any of Ortlieb's systems will work on my rack. Does anyone have any experiene with these? I'm trying to wade through the mirada of Ortlieb's options.

The QL-3 uses ”knobs” on the rack. These could be in the way when using the QL-1 hooks if they’re not removable.
The Contro e speeds rack looks quite ”fat”. Check if the QL-1 hooks are big enough.
I used an old pair ( 20 years) of ortlieb front rollers as rear bags on my Specialized Vado ( before the bike was stolen) but I had to buy new hooks to fit the rack. My rear rack tubing on the old regular bike was 8mm and most rack tubing today is bigger.

My racks are 16mm. QL-1 system fits up to 16mm. I think they should work just fine as a rear pack. It's just that they are more comonly used in the front because of the size. I see on the Ortlieb site that they show them being used on the rear rack as well.

This explained a lot. I was thinking that maybe the QL-1 wouldn't work on my rack or was somehow outdated.

The QL1 system is found on the “CLASSIC” lines, like the Ortlieb Bike-Packer Classic, and the Ortlieb Back-Roller Classic which are usually used as rear panniers and sometimes as front panniers on long-distance bicycle tour. QL1 is also used on the smaller Ortlieb Sport-Packer Classic, and the Ortlieb Front-Roller Classic usually used as front pannniers or rear panniers for lightweight touring.

I went with the smaller Ortlieb Sport-Roller City pannier. I was confused because they said that they were for "children's bikes and front pannier use". They also work great as a minimal bag on the back as well. I didn't need a full sized touring bag, just something to bring some stuff home in. For now my wife and I are using one pannier each of the set and that works for us. $99 at Planet Cyclery. The QL-1 system works great on the Cannondale Contro-e Speed rack (19mm). The "Otlieb Gravel Packs" were my first choice but at $179 for the pair and being the same capicity, I couldn't bring myself to do it. They are a lighter construction and feel like a fabric rather than the vinyl of the Sport-Roller City.

Got mine! Quite heavy duty. Originally $83. Closed out for $20 each with shipping. Ortlieb sure over built these.

OOPS!! I'm sorry LOUSY MEMORY, I changed my order at the last minute, being unable to pass a good deal. The mount is a bit odd but zip ties are my friends.I went with a Detours model. 600 denier nylon, and lined with rain covers. originally $85, others have on sale for $43 EACH. Got them for $20 each. Attachment is high. Amazon wants $70 each for these.

I've had the Ortlieb Sport Roller-City bags out for several rides now. I can't say that I am tickled with them. They are tough and water proof, I'll give them that but the clips on either side that release the rolled up top are hard to get your fingers on. I struggle every time, trying to either close or open the bags. Add gloves or cold hands to that and you'll be a while. Seems like a small thing but I find it to be a real pain in the Arse.
