New Shimano battery

For my new HP Velotechnik Scorpion recumbent e-trike I ordered a spare Shimano battery. I came to me new and fully discharged, i.e. no charge showing on battery indicator. Should I leave it in this no-charged stated until time to use, or should I charge it up to 100% and use it down to 40% to store until needed.

I would say the latter is the better approach. It is better to find out right away if the battery is defective in any way in case you need to make a warranty claim. Plus, it is better to store it with a partial charge.
