New Nevo3 GT Vario (GX)

Ordered some new Ortlieb front fork bags. The Ortlieb rear pannier bags were getting rather full.

I’ve put in there things we may need on a ride in an emergency, but don’t need on a daily basis. Such as, spare tubes for both bikes, puncture repair kit, CO2 inflator and cartridges, first aid kit, plus a small tool kit.

This way, it moves some of the weight from the rear, about 2kg either side, plus gives more space for food and drink on trips or shopping.

As usual with Ortlieb, the build quality and finish is superb. Plus the instructions and the actual installation is very simple with good quality fixing components.

I also think that they look good and match the style of the rear panniers. The rear reflective patches on the front and back sides are 3M, that are incredibly bright when light shines on them.

Does it add much weight to steering “feel”? I’ve never ridden with panniers on front forks before so curious to understand the riding experience.

I’ve got a pair of Ortlieb rollers for the rear of my SC2 and they’re brilliant.

I’m actually looking at the Aeroe Spider rack system for my new eMTB & existing road bike as requires no existing mount points on frame, works with rear suspension & dropper posts too:

Some kiwi ingenuity right there - plenty of positive reviews online too

They each have a capacity of 4.1 litres or 3 kg.

I have weighed them and one side is 1.7kg and the other side is 1.9kg, so in a similar ballpark. I haven’t ridden it yet, but as the weight is fairly low down and not too dissimilar, I’m hoping that it will not be too noticeable.

I’ll being trying them out tomorrow and I’ll let you know how it goes.

Their bags do have very good reviews and I haven’t found any adverse comments about them relating to the riding experience.

Mind you, I haven’t noticed any problems with the rear panniers and I know that the weight is not balanced on them, with the left side being heavier.

That Spider Rear Rack does look interesting.

Tried the Ortlieb front fork bags out today and I'm pleased to report that they worked well. Nice and stable, with no effects on the ride. However, they were a bit noisy as the contents rattled a fair bit.

Main culprit was the puncture repair kit contents in a plastic box. Swapped the box for a plastic bag and added some padding. Now all nice and quiet: Result…

Treated the bike to some new goodies today.

Namely, the Garmin Varia Radar and the Radar Display Unit.

Quite nice and discreet product that works really very well. It picks up vehicles well before I see in the mirror, or hear them.

Very impressed so far.

Yes, love my Varia ( I use integrated light on mine) and use integrated warning display on my Edge 530.

Sort of safety technology I’d be reluctant to ride without now.

My Nevo3 GT Vario GX went in for its service today, after doing 1910 miles. No significant issues found, which is good. But, the drive belt needed tightening up as it was a bit slack.

Updated report on its usage so far;
- front fork bags working well, you don’t notice that they are there.
- just got back from a two week cycling honeymoon in the Lake District and Peak District. Did 207 miles with no issues, so that was very successful.
- the cockpit has been tidied up and the handlebar extension has been removed. I must admit that it does look neater.
- some pedal extenders have been added as my heels occasionally caught the bike frame.
