New controller for bafang bbs02 500w

Hi,

Im based in the UK and have fitted the above motor kit from China and I got the 30h signalling error on initial start up.
Because of my delay in starting the project I will find it difficult to get a refund or replacement, but the sender says he will send a new controller, but won't say what the type/amperage is. He also gave an address, 100 miles away for repair but they don't answer their phone.
My question is where can I get a new controller and instructions on how to fit the controller myself. I have read there are updated controllers so would like to get one of these if possible.
I have tried another working display unit 850c on the rig but that still produces the 30h fault so I'm assuming the fault is the writing loom, controller, or the motor itself.
Thanks for reading
Tony

Not sure if you can use an updated controller if your unit didn't come with it originally.
A replacement controller can possibly be sourced from EM3EV or California eBike
Have you tried opening up the motor and checking the controller internal connections? This is mentioned as a possible solution in the troubleshooting guide.

Gioni,
Thanks for your reply. I will check the connections. I was pleased to read that I can change the controller by just taking the chain wheel off, rather than taking the motor off the bike.

It should be the same as your current controller. There aren't amperage choices. If you have a 48V 500W you should use the same controller.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your reply.
I ead somewhere that you could boost the 500 watt bbs02 to a 750 by changing to a larger controller because both 500 and 750 are the some motor other than the controller. But, I'm quite happy with 500 Watts and it's controller

Reading “somewhere” can lead to disasters. I’d replace the same controller.

Hi guys, After a long break, I've just fitted the new 500 watt controller to my 500w bafang motor and it's half working., It works on throttle and the display is working and the previous error 30 has gone.
The problem now is that the pedal assist isn't working. Could there be something 'silly' that I'm not aware of.
I am doing a bit of reading but hope someone can guide me what to check for.
Thanks
Tony.

First I would double check the external connections.
Then I would check the controller programming via pc as it may have been shipped with funk'd up settings
Then I would double check the internal connections... the ones on the controller to the motor.

Gionni,
Thanks for your help, I've checked the cable connections and settings on my p850c controller to no avail. What I've noticed is that there is a red led on the speed sensor which doesn't light up. I'm not sure if it is supposed to light when the magnet passes the sensor or all the time.
I have the cable to read the display unit but not set it up yet.

All the time.... or maybe I should say, whenever the motor/display are powered up. Follow those wires to the controller and you should see your problem.

Thanks A Hicks,
I think the speed sensers cable comes straight from the controller. It's a new controller so doubt it could be wrong but the original controller was unserviceable so don't know. I hope it's not a bad connector in the controller, it's a pain taking the controller off.
Could it possibly be a software control issue requiring me to connect the programming cable and laptop.?
Thanks again

Magnet MUST flash when magnet passes the sensor (led). Magnet is not close enough OR the sensor needs replacing. A good item to always have in your spares.

The light should be ON steady when the display is powered up... but when you first turn it on it may be OFF until the magnet passes by it once.
Then it should blink OFF with each pass of the magnet.

Odd. All of mine, all older flash hen passed by the magnet. But mine are all 2017 or older.

Thanks
I would not expect a PAS sensor failure or a failure of the PAS circuit on the new controller. Did you seat the PAS connector properly.

From an endless sphere thread.
Hi Harry,
I'm asking myself the same question.
Some of the smaller connectors aren't the best quality. Just not enjoying the thought of undoing the controller again.
The upshot is that I won't buy anything expensive from China again.

Very often when working with many wires in a tight space you need to double check connections before tightening up those mounting bolts. Also many connections aren't as secure the second time around.
