New Como 5.0

Hi all, I have a new como 5.0 ordered and hopefully it will be in later this week. I can hardly wait... is there any do’s or don’t’s that I should be looking at? I’ve been riding my old mountain bike to get my legs back, it’s old like me....Thanks

I can't think of anything. I got one two weeks ago. My GF just picked up her 4.0 today and we're headed out to ride in 30 minutes.

My only tip would be use the motor sparingly if you want to go far. I turn mine off going down hill or on an easy flat, then turn it back on if I need more speed or want to climb. Just on level 1/Eco mode usually, if I need a boost, kick it up to level 2 or 3.

It seems to go a lot farther that way. I did 26.3 miles @ 15.5 mph on 51% charge used last night. That's been my most efficient ride yet.

That said, if you want to go for a short, fast ride, put it on the highest level and go feel like Lance Armstrong :)

Greetings. Had my Como 5 8 weeks now. 800 miles here in Moab. Love it. Mighty steed. Left the fenders off. Have a Kuat rack for F 150. Enjoy yours

Welcome and best wishes. Be sure to return here to post some photos when you get rolling!

I’m leaving the front rack off and thinking about leaving off the fenders, I really like the look of the como 3. I’m adding a rear rack, a mirror and a seat bag for a few tools. I would be glad to take some pictures, but all I have for back ground is corn and bean fields around here.... I may have to take some trips to get some of the beautiful scenery that a lot of you have.

(Gadgetnut) how do you like your bar ends, I have them on my mountain bike and loved them.... really helped on climbs. Was thinking about getting some ergon gp3 grips with the bar ends on them.

Had problem with my Como 5 motor. Just kinda paused at times. Specialized sending a new one. Really fine service by them and Moab Cyclery

@TurboComo5.0 regarding accessory choices, I realize you are foregoing the FRONT rack but for interested others, carrying anything heavy in the FRONT rack adds unwelcome sway and momentum to steering. I’ve become accustomed to the dynamics and feel pretty comfortable transporting bulkier items home during a short ride from town. I don’t know if the 2020 Como 5.0 still has the saddle-mounted rear taillight but I found that a saddle bag or a rear rack trunk bag blocks view of the saddle taillight from behind. Given the geometry of my setup, the factory taillight is only partially visible and I added an additional accessory to the rear luggage rack, a Garmin radar taillight, which detects vehicles coming up behind and alerts audibly and visually to a handlebar-mounted display. BTW, I always had round rear view mirrors before but for this bike I bought the teardrop shaped handlebar rear mirror and find it incredibly perfect.

Regarding the corn and bean fields, I encourage you not to wait to travel elsewhere but celebrate every ride everyday and definitely share photos and stories with us along the way. As I was raised in the flats of the USA Midwest, I agree that the landscape scenery around me now is magnificent, a great joy. But the transformative experience– the ride– is with you now where you are and brings us together far and wide. :) Cheers, welcome, and happy trails.

I really like the Ergon Grips. Given the routes I choose and my current fitness, I can’t say I really “torque” on the grips during hill climbs... but I got the longer style and angled them slightly up to provide an alternate riding position, which I enjoy as it reduces fatigue.

Neat setup. What do you have strapped to the down tube?
The bulky rectangle on the down tube is a heavy duty, folding bike lock by Abus. While researching bike lock options, it seemed a step up compared to the traditional cable bike locks which are so easily defeated. FYI, Abus produces the lock that holds the Specialized battery in place so I had my LBS special order additional Abus accessories all keyed alike so I only have one key to carry.

@Onegraham, 800 miles in 8 weeks, what an impressive start! Approaching 1500 miles on my Como 5.0, which I received in November 2019.
Glad you know the joy too. Glorious. And mine bought after my heart attack 11weeks ago. Amazingly Liberating. And with Moab, Utah as my area. Could not be more pleased. Back to being 12 again. Fabulous Bike.

My new turbo is in.... I went to the bike shop to take a look at it tonight..... can’t wait to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Traded my dealer my pizza rack for a rear rack and rack bag. Did I mention..... I can’t wait......

Picked up my new bike yesterday..... this thing is really nice. I feel like that 10 year old boy of many years ago. Did an 18 mile ride this morning and it was great. Wow... am I out of shape. Due to some injuries I haven’t been able to ride for the last 3 years and it feels so good to be able to bike once more. Hopefully the only cheating I’ll be doing is cheating the grim reaper out of a few more years. Now I need to get a few more accessories and to get my legs and hind end in better shape.

My neighbor just bought one. Really good looking bike.

After hearing about ours, several of our friends are checking them out now. They are a lot of fun.

All the fun with none of the work is how I explain it to them.
