Why? Why make a new battery that you cant swap in the current bikes. Very disappointing. I guess the technology didn't advance enough to make the PowerTube625 the same size as 500. I do hope that as battery density increases, we can benefit by improving our range without having to buy new bikes.

Well the 400 and 500 wh powertubes are compatible with each other, I believe.

One would hope Bosch plans for the 625 powertube size to be compatible with whatever their next upgrade will be.

Definitely has taken the bloom off the rose.

If you think that’s bad, consider that the Nevo went from 2nd battery on the frame to rack form factor. My dealer acted like that was no big deal — I should just spend the money to replace two frame batteries with rack batteries — another $2k in addition to the bike just to stay even. I was told this after my less than a year old model became obsolete upon the Gen4 + update. Pretty sketchy.

It’s had the opposite effect on me. The Gen2 models were advertised as “full power to 28mph“ by Riese&Mueller specifically. Not even. At this point, the new engines and upgrades to try and make these bikes peppier near 28mph has become comical.
