The spacer that goes between your brake calipers. When you remove your brake calipers, you should put them in between to prevent the oil leakage if you accidentally press the levers.

Avid is a brake brand from SRAM.

When you install the brake housing/calipers, this thing will come off and rotor will occupy this annular space.
But when you remove the housing/calipers for bleeding or maintenance purpose, you should put this spacer.
