MD/DC Ebike Controversy

I remember reading somewhere that the park service has jurisdiction in the park except for the paved trail which is maintained by Montgomery County. As a result, we have to follow MD e-bike laws.

I have been on Stromers for 6 years in the DC area. used to live in Chevy Chase and now Falls Church. the worst I have had are some serious Lycras crying cuz i passed them a couple times, not in groups but when they were solo. I live on the W&OD frequently going to Purceville or back through Montgomery county out the C&O or up to Lake Frank and back down Ga Ave or trails into DC to MGM or MT Vernon. Not one legal hassle just a few individuals. I am not perfect on the trails going a little fast but always polite, apologize when needed , try to not make anyone have to move or brake due to my riding.

I also always have my panniers on. try to hide the motor, dont speak to anyone unless stopped and even then act my headset is loud even though it isnt, no hassles. If I see a smiling or non threatening person speak i will answer questions, I tell them it feels like being in Disneyland every day except minus the crowd when ever I ride...

Follow up article from the same nuisance individual with an axe to grind about ebikes on the Capital Crescent Trail, meanwhile the supportive comments from other cyclists make for encouraging reading, http://www.thewashcycle.com/2017/08/dont-be-exclusive-leave-some-pavement-for-non-motored-bikes.html. This individual has been complaining about ebikes on trails in the D.C. Area for at least the past 2 years.

Followed by support for our cause http://www.thewashcycle.com/2017/08/we-can-and-should-share-the-trails-with-e-bike-cyclists.html

But the ebikes mega-post on the WABA forum shows the level of push back from some local cyclists.
