Loose Motor on Como 2.0 UPDATE: Cracked Frame (Vados too)

The real question is how far the folks with broken frames rode their bikes. And how long they will be without them.
My opinions about Specialized are exactly as valid as yours are about Trek.
Ok, that's a valid point. Some ppl with fancy carbon frames managed to cause some damage by using their bikes for the purpose they were designed for- jumping, off roading and such. We are talking about special bikes for the top dollar, say £8k and beyond range. So one could argue they were abusing their bikes bit then again, they bought these bikes for this particular activity and specialized sells this equipment as designed for this, so pretty straightforward if you ask me.
With regards to folks like me, with a Vado that popped itself, it was ridden as any other road bike, from a to b and back. No thrills.

6k km on 120 charges not bad at all, especially ona class 3 bike, if I remember correctly yours is homologated for road use in Poland and has no speed restrictions.
45 km/h or 28 mph. In all honesty, I do not abuse the high speed capability. I would be happy with 20 mph but cannot stand the 15.5 mph Euro limit.

Agreed, 20mph is just about right, 15.5 is plain annoying. Mine cuts out around 16.5mph and on flat I'll happily pedal up to 22mph, 26 top but it is annoying. Considering starting a petition to change the legislation.

Hello,

Just a quick update and potentially a good one. Just had an email from the store, informing me that bike will be replaced for a new one- they are offering 2021 Vado 3- although due to stock shortages maybe a month wait or more/ less.
So I started digging and please correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that I'll be getting less than I've had. Less torque, less power, less assistance, cheap drivetrain components. Not sure what to do now...
Cheers,

You're spot on and should talk to them. Might end up in a Vado 4.0 offer as others have achieved.
At the very latest if you insist your better components should be transplanted to the new Vado.

Thought so. I've emailed the shop and explained that they are offering inferior option and suggested that Vado 4.0 is a closer match to what I've had than the new 3.0. Fair play to the store as they agreed to raise this with Specialized and will get back to me. Wouldn't entertain the idea of transplanting stuff from the old bike to new.
I also pointed out that there is a significant difference in a drivetrain, so spare chains and cassettes I have will not fit (9 gear vs 10gear on my old Vado)
I must say that although this is taking a while I'm so far quite pleased with how this is being delt with.
Further updates as they come.
Cheers.

And now, swiftly onto the bad news. Alegedly there are no more Vado 4.0 available, as all sold or otherwise allocated.
Bummer.
I'll may have to take that 3.0 they offered, sell it and buy something else. I'll try to get money instead of a replacement bike first tho.
Sad face...

Need to go higher up the food chain.

What about taking the Specialized warranty by word: new frame and your LBS has to transplant your components to it?
Yes, this option was offered, but I'd end up with a Frankenstein that's neither stock 2019 nor 2021.
I think I'd rather get a stock bike and if I don't like it I can always sell it and buy something else.
Ideally at this point I'd like my money back...

Not sure how. It's in the specialized concept store, they seem helpful and attentive and dealing with HQ directly. I'm trying to be realistic, so if they don't have 4.0 I'll probably end up with 3.0 and sell it if I don't like it. Ideally would take money back...

With all respect due, that wouldn't be any Frankenstein. The frame is same in all models, and your components would come from your 4.0.
P.S. What model year are you talking about? The frame hasn't changed since 2017. Everything else will be yours (existing).

Ok, fair enough. Not a big fan of transplants.
I'll double check if they are offering complete new bike with new battery as replacement and if so, if they would let me keep my used battery as well. If so, then I'll probably accept, how bad this 1.2e be.

then you could point them to the availability of Vado 4.0 with XL-frame in Germany, even online-order from the Specialized site is possible.
LHD only, I presume ;) . And "the continent" could be cut off by fog - or tariff.

In their last message they said that "all Vado 4.0 2021 stock is sold out. Allocated and unavailable and nothing can be done". I like a bit of a challenge but since the UK left the biggest club this side of the pond, everything is slow. That fog you mentioned is all around this isle...
Joking aside- how can I point them to this German option?
If they gave me a refund, then I'd probably buy Vado 4.0 from another store, as some have them in stock (independent bike shops).
I did a tiny bit of research and this 1.2e motor is the same as 1.2 but with different software- I'll ask them if they can load the software for 1.2 without e, as this solves part of my problem. All in all, bike is few years old, so even though they are offering something a bit inferior, at the same time they are offering a whole new bike- I guess because it is easier than swapping all the bits.

OK, now something unrelated- I watched a Brose info vid a while back- apparently some of their new motors feature decupling of the motor when top assist speed is reached, or when battery is flat, thus eliminating motor resistance- has anybody heard about this? which Specialized bikes have these motors? This would be an amazing feature to have. I've run out of juice once or twice, motor resistance is more annoying than speed restrictor...

"Auf Lager" = available (in stock)

The Vado SL's and Creo's have this feature. Supposedly it's only about 3 watts drag with motor off and it is not noticeable. I keep the motor off except for the steeper hills. The hardest part is starting out without assist until you forget it's not on. On the other hand the assist is much lower than the Vado's.
