Looking for advice on my first ebike

Hi, I am thinking about getting an ebike to commute to work the distance is 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) with a couple of uphill sections both ways in Ottawa Canada.

I have a been looking at a couple of bikes:

• BMW Ebike
• Easy Motion Neo Volt Sport
• Easy Motion Neo Xtrem
• Easy Motion Neo Cross

I try the Easy Motion Neo Volt Sport and really like but I wasn’t able to climb any hills. I know that the Easy Motion bike has the twist throttle but couldn’t find any info about the BMW. I want to know also if the twist throttle feature is something that most people use.

I am 32 years old, weigh 190 with minor low back problem with a budget of 3000$ also I leave in an apartment. I would appreciate any suggestions

Hi Vlad, thanks for providing your info on budget and weight. How tall are you and will you have to carry the bike up or down stairs to get to your apartment? I also have neck and back troubles and have come to appreciate the upright position of some cruiser style electric bikes like the IZIP Zuma or the suspension and knobby tires of the Easy Motion Jumper (which is a bit more expensive).

I don't know much about the BMW Cruise electric bike but have posted an image below just to get an idea. It reminds me a lot of the Neo Cross or the IZIP E3 Dash (which many people here have purchased).



One bike that came to mind which would offer some comfort and a low price is the e-Joe Anggun. Depending on the slope of the hills you're trying to climb most electric bikes will require a bit of pedaling. I personally enjoy using a throttle sometimes (to relax my legs) but more active designs and some from Europe don't include it. For the most power and range I recommend checking out mid-drive electric bikes... They will be louder and often cost more but can use your gears to provide more torque.

Thank you Court for the information. I am 5”11 and will not be carry the bike because I have access to an elevator. I call a couple stores around my area and they don’t have the e-Joe Anggun bike. Here a list of Bike company that are available to me in my region: Pedego, Stromer, ION, Easy Motion, Emmo, Polaris, Smart Mercedes, BMW, Solex, Toba and Igo.

sounds like a great deal from established brand plus with Bosh drive...a de facto standard for new modern ebikes

And if you're going to be riding every day a front suspension bike with large tires are a real plus.. I ride every day and found this gel seat to be a lifesaver, and very reasonable..

Sorry I've been offline Vlad, what did you end up going with? Do you have any other questions... I haven't tried the BMW but I can vouch for the Bosch system on Haibikes and Felt bikes. It's pretty smooth and powerful, they've been building ebike motors for several years now in Europe so I trust the technology even if it seems new with the BMW frame. This bike would be an awesome commuter and $2,500 really isn't that bad considering what you get.
