Led Headlight to run off one of the Bafang motor output wires?

I purchased a Led Headlight from Ebay, supposed to work on 6V. However when I hooked up the light to the small #20 gauge wires coming from the motor all it would do is flash and go out. I checked polarity and it was correct, I figured the light was bad however I put it across 12v and it came on great. Am I mistaken that those #20 gauge wires from the motor are not for this function? The wires indeed check out at 6v by my meter. Only other thing I'm thinking is the light pulls to much current to work. Anyone come across this situation? I have a BBS02 36v 500w system

I would not risk frying the controller inside my BBS02. There is a 5 volt running around inside the motor, but it's fairly low current intended for running the throttle, and position sensors inside the motor.

Get a DC-DC converter module 40V to 6V. Run that off the battery with a fuse.
