Hi all,
I've been lurking around the community for some time, and am happy to announce that I just received my 2015 Dash last week. Unfortunately it came 1 day before the snow, so my experience to this point is limited. Received my city kit in the mail yesterday, and look forward to slapping that puppy on this weekend. This is my first e-bike, and I hope to be commuting minimally with my car 8+ months of the year from here on out.
I have been surprised by how little purchase e-bikes have gained here in Chicago. I know that the fact that many people would not want to bike commute in the coldest months can be a deterrent, but given how atrocious the traffic is here, I would think people would be signing up in droves for the spring, summer and fall. Given that we are one of the largest metro areas in the US, the lack of local shops specializing (except for Kozy's ) is pretty sad.
I work at two primary locations, one 17 miles from home and one 27. I've been using my bike for the far commute, as there is a good bike-metra-bike combination I can do. The 17 miler however has been an issue, as the distance, the time I start work vs. the earliest I can drop kids at daycare, and lack of full shower facilities combine to make it an untenable option. Now, I hope to jam my way up there at higher speed, without the need to push it like I'm back in triathlon training. I will probably continue to use my regular bike for the mixed commute, as it is only 3 + 1 miles on each way with a train ride in the middle - plus I think hauling the Dash up on to the train would be a chore due to the weight. I would love to hear more about the commuting experiences of others, or get feedback from any other Chicagoland riders.
After one aborted attempt to buy from another brand (never even saw the bike, horrible customer service story), I am currently happy it didn't work out so I can now admire my new Dash !! Picked the Dash due to its top speed, features, range - and the fact that I got a great deal on a new 2015 at end of season (thanks Flyrides of CA). Customer service and delivery speed were great from Ike @ the store. Also important was the fact that while I shipped it in there is a Currie dealer in the city.
Court and Co. - You are providing a great service to those of use just coming around to the market. I have watched dozens of your videos, and while I am not sure I fully agree with your ratings system
- your site was instrumental in helping me narrow my focus and figure out what I was looking for. Thank You!
