I am in the ebike club - Brooklyn NY - Bullitt cargo bike with front hub motor

Bought it off of Craigslist after a month of negotiations. Was able to talk them down 30%.

Works like a dream.

Was not a big fan of the cargo box at first, but it has grown on me.

It hits 22 pretty easily and have had it last for about 15 miles on 1 charge - 36v14ah battery.

Picked up a 2nd battery at 48v14ah battery and it works, but I am worried I am going to burn the controller out. I tried to open the controller, but nothing is visible inside to see what the capacitors are rated for - suggestions?

Running errands on the weekend is fun now. No parking wait at Costco. I move to the front at red lights past all the cars.

Welcome to the Eclub..great looking rig.more than likely if it's an ezee controller it will have 60v caps..ya can't be sure but I've worked with quite a few ezee kits over the years.
 
I thought that you can not use a 36volts motor with a 48volts battery ?? Can all ebikes accept a change like that ?
i do know that with the controller is different story. ..

Not alot, but some will remap depending which year they were made and which company made them..ezee controllers were made well and I have run older 36v systems with a 48v +52v battery with 60v caps for years ,but I was easy on them running a cycle analyst at 25 amps or less and made sure they were in the airflow while moving.
 
I think motors tend to be tolerant on voltage, as long as you don't overheat them. Check it occasionally to ensure that you can still touch it w/o sizzling a fingertip.

@onespeed, you will want watch the low voltage cutoff when you use the 48V pack. A 36V controller will happily try to run your pack down to 30V. Your 48V pack, if it's got a minimum quality BMS, will shut itself off around 35V, but that's way too low for battery longevity. You will want to power off around 42V if you can. Install a voltmeter if your display doesn't have one.

Some controllers, like those from eBikeKit, and ebikes.ca sense the voltage and will work from 24V to 60V.
