How fast is too fast for you?

25 on paved roads and 15 on gravel trails is about my max.
25 mph is about all I care for, when going over 30 mph pumping I get very wobbly Consider@12 mph( 3 plus walking speed) a mile rolls underneath your wheels every 5 minutes, if I can maintain 10-12 mph on a grade I am satisfied, even if I am not adding much I try to pump. if it gets too easy I use a smaller PA, my new fattie has too much power in PAS 1 so on the 35 plus hills I use PAS 1, the less powerful bike I use pas 2, if I am patient and zone out it gives my nonexistent quads exercise. I plan to get rid of the fattie( does good on old logging roads) thats the reason I havent cut the PAS down, My Nephew got close to 30 out of it on the more or less level road( hope to trade Him for His full suspension folding bike that My daughter wants.
I may go ahead and convert my step-thru Cruiser build to the "reverse trike" when the parts get here( as of right now its got a gearless 1000 watt FWD) I have the 5 led light mounted and front wheel with torque arm installed have battery and controller mounted( If I go reverse trike does anyone have any idea what size wheels I should use? 27.5 on back currently) My left elbow flared up today after the crash, so I am getting gunshy on speed, my right arm has been feeling good with the scrapes and cuts pretty much healed.

if you’re gonna go for it, may as well go big!!!!

An acquaintance just posted his Haleakala summit ride from 2 days ago. Looks like he kept it under 40 on the way down. Crazy...

Must be the US !!!!!!
It's Scotland :) Rab is bombing steep road descents on a road e-bike!
-----------
I wrote earlier it was difficult to ride slow on high mountain descents. Now, reconsidering, I would say it is hard to ride fast during the full blown Winter. My average speed of yesterday's ride was only 14.9 km/h, and I considered riding at 19 km/h as very fast! It is not only you are riding a slippery road (even on studded tyres) but also you would like to diminish the wind chill factor... I'm talking about riding during the frost.

I have been to 45 mph on the Gazelle downhill. The gear ratio is a little low for much above that in the stock gearing configuration. Bike was very stable, but the wind in my eyes had me crying like a little girl. Life is fun!!

Got to 46 mph on my SS e-bike, my analog SS bike, and about the same on my analog Canyon geared bike. Don’t think I’d want to go any faster, and I’m aero’d and geared out way before then anyway. Only got there by spinning as fast as possible (120-130 rpm with the SS) and getting very aero down a steep descent.

Regularly get to 38+ mph on almost every ride. Can’t get enough fun downhills in an aero position!

Slow and easy for me. I ride off road.
Too fast is when I push the throttle.
I went for a 5 mile ride just counting bridges.

There's a downhill section of my regular circuit where I often reach nearly 60kph. The bike still feels plenty stable at that speed, but I don't think that I would want to go much faster. ;)

I'm counting bridges if I go too fast I will miss counting.

I am a creature of habit. I tend to ride leisurely the same 4.5 mile route at about 10 to 12 MPH every day. As I ride I enjoy checking out everything around me so I don't go very fast. As I observe other riders many seem their goal is ride fast and cover as much territory in as short a time as possible. To each his own as the saying goes.

Normally ride 10-20 mph at low assist and keep it under 30 mph on paved descents. As @teskow and other have noted, much to be said for smelling the roses at 10 mph.

In a moment of insanity, let it roll to 36 mph once. Bike felt fine, but at age 75, a fall at that speed could easily be life-changing. And wife would kill me if the fall didn't.
