I don't see any box that let's me attach a file. I'm in a conversation with someone and a picture is worth a thousand typed letters? I have clicked open the different boxes but can't find the attach file box.

In the space where you write your response is "attach files" button with the picture of a paper clip...

Sorry but I don’t think that's a paper clip. It's a zero for sections of the forum with up votes and down votes. An experiment only.

You can perhaps use the standard windows tool bar above the reply area. The icon looks like a framed picture of a mountain next to a smiling 🌝

Thanks to you both,

Taylor 57, where I am now, typing here, there is a paperclip in a green box with attach file. But in the area that I respond back to the conversation, there is no green box or paper clip attach file.

Art Deco, it looks like a paper clip to me and Taylor 57📎. I do see the 0 with up and down, not sure what that has to do with attaching a file. I'm on Android, not windows. That icon of mountain brings up a box, a chain in the box and another box with http:// not sure what I'm to do there?
It seems this conversation area might not have an easy way to post a picture. To bad. If you have any suggestions I'll try them. Thanks.

Yes that box with the http:// will work , but only if you have a valid url ... meaning the image is online somewhere ( like photobucket ) or a google image search or whatever. You copy the address to whatever you want to display and paste it into the block where the http: appears. Not intuitive.. took me three tries on android... and I am a geek.

The paperclip button doesn't show up in private messages (on my tablet, anyway) but works fine in a normal thread.

I thought you were misinterpreting the 0 and up down arrows as a paperclip.

When you hit reply, the green box should be below where you start typing...

Welcome to EBR Gone2c.

I just tried to post a picture from my Android phone in a private "conversation" I started with you for that purpose. It did not work in the simple way I am used to. Perhaps because as one member stated in this "thread" (that is what I am used to your post here and the subsequent responsees being called) it takes several other steps.

To post a picture in this "thread" (if I'm right in what this is called) I will do a few specific steps on my android phone.

Okay 7 steps the way I do it. ( There are probably scores of ways to do it.)

Touch a little picture icon at the top of my input screen on my phone, when "drop an image" is presented touch it, touch "browse ", touch "gallery" , touch "camera", let it upload by %s, touch "post reply".

Edit : Oops, I missed a step. After I touch gallery then camera my previously taken photos are displayed and I need to touch one of them.

So perhaps in a "conversation" it takes other steps. But in posting on a "thread" I can do it in those seven steps for pictures on my phone already.

I do believe one slight deviation back a few steps would allow for taking a picture after I already started typing out written content.

I believe this was solved in a private conversation. Thanks guys.

As I tried to explain in the thread ... the picture can not be on your local storage and must have a url .
(Google drive, photobucket, a website, whatever)

1 On my version of Android you display the picture in a separate tab on your browser so the url is visible at the top or bottom of the tab, a long press on the url brings up a menu with copy Link as one choice, select that.
2 Return to the tab with the conversation, select the picture icon, and paste the url in the box showing http:// with another long press in the empty space to get to a menu containing paste, select that.
3 The url is now in the http block.
Save changes if necessary.

On other versions of Android and browsers control C and control V are used instead of the long press and menu select. But the function to copy a link is there .

Is it really worthwhile? Probably not .

For anyone who cares none of this seems to work if the photos are stored in Google Photos, so really ... don't even try unless you are an expert in Google's apps. Thanks again.

I frequently think of an explanation a teacher gave our class when I was a kid of how great computers are going to be. "If I knock a cup of coffee off the desk, before the coffee hits the floor a computer will do pay roll for x employees, track y, etc. etc etc.

Yeah right, but, it will take me weeks to figure out how to get it to do that. :)

And once I figure it out, someone updates the program, and I need to figure it out again. The wheels of progress keep turning.

Best solution is to ask @troehrkasse to enable attachments in conversations.

Beyond that easiest way by far is to just upload to imgur and copy / paste the embed code. No login or account signip required. Note: If on mobile browser requires requesting the desktop version of the page to get around the "oops" message.

Yes. Maybe post that in the forum features wanted thread.

Huh... maybe it's my "admin super powers" but I can attach images in conversations, the same way I do in normal threads. There should be 3 options for inserting an image into a conversation:
  1. Click the "Insert Image" button in the toolbar, little picture icon as @Art Deco noted. This will allow you to browse to find the picture file on your computer or phone.
  2. Click the "Attach Files" button below the message editor.
  3. Copy the picture file and then paste it in to the editor window, or drag-and-drop it into the editor window.
To illustrate:

@Gone2c I'll send you a test message with an image. Would you let me know if you have those options for adding an attachment?
