Hit & run e-cyclist causes death in UK

Following is the article about a hit & run electric cyclist in the UK. Pedestrian died days later.

Bottom line: be respectful to pedestrians or we'll all be regulated to a "safe speed". Maybe 8 mph?

That would be extreme overreacting on any legislatives' part. It's not like motor vehicles which have much higher speed laws aren't killing people on such a regular basis that it is counted in minutes. The U.K. alone has around 2,000 auto deaths a year. Cars and motorcycles not only have higher speeds but much more mass behind it, so the Force (F=MxV) is so much higher which increases that danger by folds. I'd like to see what the legal speed rates would be if they were measured with a fair standard based off of a logical, rational, scientific analysis of differing vehicles potentials to do harm and the statistical rates at which such accidents occurs. Semi trucks and buses would have to travel at 6mph, motorcycles at 2mph, cars at 8mph. Of course E-bikes would be at Mach 3 since only one person has died so far!!!

However, it is incredibly sad that someone (in the U.K. and therefore is news "worthy" by western standards) has died at the hands of an irresponsibly driven E-bike, but such is inevitable reality with the chaos of today's modern life. Hopefully such rare events won't be used by the overreactive and paranoid to rationalize yet another choking law that chips away the tiny, dwindling last remains of our human freedoms.
