Realize this has been discussed. Experiencing chain skip. Was told small cog at back (high gear) worn. Not critical but to come back at 4000 kms (3000 mile) Now at 3400 kms and it is skipping quite badly in this gear. I am told that the entire sprocket will have to be changed. Kaching kaching! Hoping the new one will have a bit more endurance.

How many kms on the chain? Road bike or mtb? At 5,000 miles on my road bike, original cassette. But it's a Haibike, not Giant.

has anybody priced out a rear cassette set for Exploreer E+2 in Canadaland.

Being a mid-drive ebike the Giant E+2 can accept any Shimano compatible 9-speed cassette. Prices range based on quality but 9-speed cassettes really aren't too expensive, at least compared to 11- & 12-speed components.

Do you find yourself often riding in the smaller cassette cogs? If so I can see where the GiantSync Drive (Yamaha) motor with its 80Nm of torque could wear those cogs relatively quickly. You might consider increasing the size of the larger chain ring if this is the case. This thread discussess changing the chain ring and has a link for the motor service manual.

BTW - When was the last time you replaced the chain? Mid-drives are harder on chains. Others have posted that replacing the chain after 2,000 miles still resulted in damage to the chain rings.

Thx Sierratim. Guess wot. I have never replaced the chain. A few rides ago I was into the shop. They checked it and said come back at 4000 kms. I'm about there so I suspect it will be a new chain and cassete.
