I recently purchased pasak front suspension for my electric so and in my haste I cut the stem about 1-1/2 inches too short, does anyone have any info on how I could correct the problem, the only thing I could think of is maybe cut it a little shorter and weld a piece back on, if it is even possible? Any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks.

Yikes! Sorry to say that you may have to scrap that fork. My trusted and extremely gifted bike mechanic has shared several tricks with me to DIY a lot of bike stuff, but always warned against doing my own fork replacement. Between precision-cutting, star nut and crown race stuff, it can be a precarious job even with proper equipment.

Okay I'm confused.

Initially I thought you probably cut the steer tube too short.
But now you're saying that "maybe cut it a little shorter" ?

If steer tube is too short, why would you want to cut it shorter?
just thought it would be easier to weld,I am just throwing idea out,I really have no idea what would be best.

Yea,was to excited to get it on their, well this one gonna cost me.

Hi Jim, Welcome to EBR.

How much will it cost you? How much are replacement forks?

Cutting steer tube shorter may be a good idea to get weld in the right place but....at what cost? Machine shop time is about $120 an hour around me. Weld would need to be done "right" in the right place then possible truing steer tube up in a lathe. Then you have a repair - will it work and hold......and will you be able to trust its working through the years.

When I learn a lesson by spending time re-doing something 2 or 3 times it's frustrating. When it costs money on top it's positively annoying.
