HELP Wet eBike

Just went on a ride on my eBike and got caught in a heavy downpour of rain and my eBike stopped working!!! The C6 readout still works but no power to the hub motor at all!!! I could use some advise on what to do next???

Brake cutoffs still wet? Let dry or try to flick the brakes several times to see if it thinks the brakes are on. Hope it is something simple for you.

No codes on display? Since we have no idea what eBike you own, it’s tough to help. Put a fan on it, pull some connectors apart and check for moisture.

I know this sounds weird, but maybe try gently using a hair dryer to speed up the drying out process.

This is a very good advice.

I recently spilled some water on my work laptop (Thikpad T580) and the keyboard, touchpad stopped working. I had some deadlines to submit a research document. It was very stressful few hours.
Thankfully, Thinpad had some drains but i gently opened the rear panel and used a hair dryer for 20 mins and let is cool down. After few hours, booted it and it worked fine. I felt like a hero.

Water/moisture creates adverse effects in electronic components, esp if they are not potted.

So, my advice is, remove all the display and cables. Wipe it down using a dry tissue or a cloth, use hair dryer (esp at the battery/controller contacts after making sure the battery has been taken out) and then after an hour, reboot it. Also, make sure water has not gotten into the battery box.

Also, and this should go without saying: turn the bike off and disconnect the battery until your certain everything is dried out.

And once you work out how the water got in , add some dielectric grease to that connection

Got my eBike back, used a can of compressed air and a blow dryer as suggested and all is well again. Thanks to all who posted to my thread, this is a great forum and I am glad to be a part of it.

Glad you got your bike working again and I hope you found the source of the water intrusion. I am on an extended camping vacation and my bike has been rained on twelve of the past fourteen days! I ride the bike everyday and today was the first time I got caught in a heavy thunderstorm. The bike and I both got a good soaking before we found a covered shelter to wait out the storm. So far, I have had no issues, maybe I have just been lucky, but I will be disappointed if my bike quits working because it got rained on.

I am curious as to how old your bike is and if this is the first time it has gotten wet. If it is still under warranty, I would be talking to the vendor/manufacturer/LBS about the source of the water intrusion and available remedies.

We had that experience a month ago when water splashed up on the wiring on my wife's bike. First the throttle kicked in by itself. She stopped the bike, and then it quit running. My field fix was to blow out the connectors with a CO2 inflator, and dry them with clean paper tissue . I promised to waterproof the wiring, but haven't done it yet.

I have a 2015 Leisger CD5 with over 3500 miles on the clock so a warranty is not in question. I live in the west central coast of Florida (Clearwater) so I get plenty of rain and have been stuck riding in the rain countless times in the past few years. This particular ride involved a very severe downpour of rain that was extremely bad and I should have stopped and taken shelter somewhere along the way. When my bike failed I still had a full display with no error codes, the bike simply stopped running. I had to manually ride home without any assistance for about 2 miles back to my home in the severe downpour. Still not sure where the water intrusion problem was as I used an entire can of compressed air and a blow dryer to clear out all the connection points I could find.
