I forgot to drop to a lower gear and started my bike in the highest gear. It was a hard start. After that my chain sound like it was trying to change gears with every pedal. I went through all the gears, each gear sounded the same. This has happened before and I took it for servicing. Is this a fix I can do? It is a Trek Verve +2.

Inspect your chain carefully, turning the crank so you can examine each link for deformation. Make sure that the chain is passing over the two jockey wheels on the derailleur smoothly and correctly.as well as the cog on the cassette and that it is not misaligned on the front chain ring.
