UPDATED on March 8. So today (Sunday, February 28), I had my first good ride of 2016. Temps were in the 50's and the snow is mostly melted, certainly enough that we no longer get wet areas across the roads. The shaded bike paths may not be so hot, but I stayed on the roads. Just a bit of sand and salt, but aside from potholes and crumbling pavement, not too bad.
I decided to do a bit of distance experimentation on my 2015-16 base Turbo. I set the assist at ECO60 for the entire ride. 27.2 miles round trip, average speed 16.5 mph, started at 98% battery and ended at 35%. This is an average of just around 4.1 miles per 10% of battery consumption. Based on these results, I would guesstimate the range with 10% reserve at around 35 miles. In prior rides on the same terrain, I have used ECO40%, averaged around 14 mph, and gone as much as 35 miles, with some full TURBO usage. Using full TURBO, I averaged 20 mph, and used 50% of the battery in 10 miles.
MARCH 8: I used ECO70 on the same ride today. My average speed was 17.2 mph, I had 26% battery left at the end of the ride. This equates to 3.6 miles per 10% battery use.
Here are my estimates of range and speed trade offs with the stock 468Wh battery, my 64 year old body, and a 10-20% reserve:
Setting Average Speed* Max Range
ECO30 11-13 mph 45+ miles
ECO40 13-14+ mph 40-45 miles
ECO50 14-15+ mph 37-40 miles
ECO60 16-17+ mph 35-37 miles
ECO70 17-18+ mph 30-32 miles
TURBO 20 mph 20-22 miles
*Semi-rural roads. Rolling hills, around 800-1000 ft. total climb. mostly flatish...
