Fall hazards

It's fall here in SW New Hampshire. The tree leaves are just starting to change. The oak trees are dropping their acorns. Makes me appreciate wearing a helmet, but biking over them is a bit scary at times. Most of them crush under my wheels, but I'm fearing the one that doesn't. They're not like stones. They're round. Thank goodness for 2.25. wide tires.

Just saying....

I broke my leg 3 years ago this month slipping on a wooden bridge surface covered in wet leaves, rain, and a biofilm of algae slime from being located just a few feet above the Potomac River. NPS is working on a new bridge surface and am enormously grateful to the Friends of the Mt Vernon Trail for cleaning the existing bridge surface. Fall can indeed be dangerous.

Black walnuts on the trail are a hazard in the fall where I live. When the leaves start falling they can make the walnuts difficult to see.

Ive said that for a while now. Cars come equipped with day light running headlights for safety...eBikes should too!
Just thinking about it: all new Specialized e-bikes (except road and mountain ones) come with daylight running lights and guess what? Some users do everything to disable or remove the lights!

Egads. They're even bigger and harder than acorns! I feel for you. Our next challenge will be leaves. They're just starting to fall. When they're rain soaked they get quite slick. We have a lot of steep hills on our rides. I suspect I'll be even slower.

We have two Trek Allant 8s that come with the headlight always on. Evidently Bosch put out a software update that allows you to turn it off, so some other posters on this board rushed to get the software updated. They also think it takes up too much battery power! For a LED headlight...,, I thought about it, but decided it wasn't worth a 1 hour drive each way to get the update, especially since I now understand that it's a safety feature. Why would someone want to disable a safety feature to save a mile or two in range?

As I have noticed on my Vado 5.0/6.0 with a powerful Supernova M99 Pro, and Vado SL 4.0 with a Lezyne, the daylight running lights consume so little of energy, I even don't switch the motor/lights off during my frequent (and long) stops.

I hate pine needles the worse! We have a high count of pine trees here. And gumball trees come in a close second.

Fall has a new meaning for me - Oct 1st is the end of our state of emergency, and the later sunrise coupled with cooler mornings means the maskless jogging zombies will be less on the paths. Should be good riding soon !
