eMTB Options For 2024

In past ebike purchases, I got 15% off current model list pricing, just because. That's what they used to do. At least throw in the sales tax, right??
I don't know what the markeup is on bikes, but my guess is that it's in the 40% range. I could well be wrong. And I have no qualms about it, never denigrating anyone for earning a profit.
But, and this is a big one, ebikes are at least twice the cost of pedal bikes, so selling one is like selling two of the others, even up to five times what they were in years gone past. If you're blowing out a red-herring, blow it out and take a loss - get rid of it. A close-out, blow-out, resale bike is a loss-leader, not a profit center.

True, around here the Specialist shops are not willing to come off any on the price( that is the same for most any retailer in this area).

I'll be putting my 2019 Fathom E+2 up for sale fairly soon methinks.
Cost was $3200 CAD plus tax, so say $3650.
I am quite confident I can get $2600 CAD for it locally.

Wife's Amiti is going up too. Looks like the msrp in 2019 was $2700.
I'm thinking $1995 or best offer. :)

So that'd have you offering less discount than the dealer had on that trance, and no warranty at all ? The buyer would be very happy,

BUT your wife WILL do the maths, and even though the stance was a smarter choice , she's going to wait for exactly the right moment to ask that question. " honey, why did you feel threatened by me having a better bike than you?". Next car purchase? House ?

For what it's worth, I'd feel guilty selling my full e pro for what buyers seem willing to pay.! Right up until I was forking out THREE times what I paid for it and feeling lucky to have found a replacement. Crazy world.

I used to get a 15% discount at the lbs on everything, but noticed midway through 2020 that stopped happening. It was never expected, and to be honest it made me uncomfortable - buyers with much less resources than me were paying full retail, and I work in a service industry so am more than happy to pay for good service. My understanding is mark up used to be less than 20% but margins are getting tighter for the shops. The big discounts on end of season bikes / demo bikes were funded by the distributor , and we are unlikely to see them return until warehouses are full - don't hold your breath!

Agreed... the dealer should have been upfront about the used Ebike with no warranty from the very beginning of the transaction.

BTW, I have a friend in the bike business and the standard retail markup is over 100%... so he can discount 50% and still break even. ;)

I was told the standard markup on construction equipment could be as high as 85% and the dealers act like it would break them up to give you a carton of lube grease.
My semi-local (50 miles away) Specialized shop act like there is no possibility of a discount, however they are reasonable on service.

I wouldn't mind having that bike myself( would consider raising the Handlebars) nice looking bike.

It already has a stem-riser and satori cushion seatpost. And Schwalbe 2" ebike balloon tires. Very nice riding bike.

Two-hundred mile road trip yesterday, to Newbury Park CA - out the 101 on the north slope of the mountains of Malibu.
Beautiful bike store - 10,000sq feet of everything bicycle you can imagine.
Bike was ready to go. Got a Selle Ellipse gel-cushion wide saddle.
Did I tell you this bike has 'auto mode'? Can't wait to try it out.
This bike is every bit as nice as the TranceE, great components, 29-r, just doesn't have the maestro rear. For an e-bike I'm not sure it's all that critical. Ergos are nice and upright - much more so than the Trance, a lot like the Orbea. Fork and shock setup nicely, good damping and compression resistance, and lockouts for both ends. I need to weigh it, but I think it's 54lbs with the 9lb battery pack - 625W. She'll never run out of juice. Same gears and brakes as my OCCAM has - I was pretty surprised - the new 12sp Eagle drive train. Shifts like butter.

I put a tape measure on it for size, it's a M, my trance is the L - Stem height is the same, but the seatpost reach and WB are all shorter on the M. And hence the upright ergos. I REALLY like how it feels. It can be a backup bike for new riders that want to try out a eMTB.

2021 Giant Stance E+1. The paint is awfully much like the Orbea Rise upthread - a satin finish very light sage green, with black decals. With the 29" wheels it's really lanky and nice looking.

Awesome! Love my Stance.
I rode in Auto for the first few days, then felt like it ate more battery. Also it seems to lag a little at providing/choosing the right assistance at times.
In any case, on a nice leisurely ride it can be a nice set it/forget it option.
Enjoy!

jeez Browneye, you must ride like a pussy in granny mode not to run out a 625 watt battery ! 😄

yeah, I know, wife's bike!

Man you warm weather guys are making me jealous! My new Norco has been waiting to hit the trails.
We had a crappy wet week of Mn spring weather and trails are closed!!

Looking forward to doing some trail riding this summer and Bragg Creek, AB caught my attention. Lots of options for single track adventures there. 👍

@Prairie Dog Saw this today about Bragg Creek.
Going to have to invest in some spray I think!

And I thought my dog encounter was bad...

Yikes be careful, if you ride a particular route a lot at the same time they will pattern you!

If you want to read a good book on this read Beast in the Garden.
It's about mountain lions in Boulder Co. and the love/hate relationship with them.
