Ecotric Hammer Fat tire bike

I ordered this bike on Friday, Ecotric Hammer 1000 watt 48 volt. but I cant seem to find a lot of reviews on it, I cant afford any more than this due to disabled and fixed income did I make a mistake or is this a good bike ? .. I am now wondering if it will be too tall. I cant seem to find an 800 or even direct phone for this company even though it is California warehouse , This is the one I ordered shown below.

There's not enough information available on the bike to really have an upinion. I don't know where you purchased the bike but I hope you got a good warranty and the seller will provide back up support, I think you'll need it. You get what you pay for, good luck,

Thanks, I Bought it right off Ecotric website, has a 2 yr warranty and a 30 day try it , if you don't like it they will let you return it... *** If you have all the original packing material and box it came in.**** It is due in today, maybe UPS will be here before dark today lol

That's a good warranty if they stand behind it. I see they sell them on Amazon and that's not usually a good sign. Hopefully you'll be riding the bike this time tomorrow

Well bike arrived about an hour ago, I have the battery on the charger, assembled and gave it a spin.. all pedal power , only thing I need to adjust the derailuer shift points it misses 2 nd gear. but man I like it, Tomorrow I will try it with the battery power . So right now I have no idea if the motor even runs but I am sure it will the box does not have a lot of damage so I think it will be ok.

Took my first ride today, Now I see what all the fun is about.. Gee Whiz Gosh I did 4 miles but let me tell you it was hard to stop riding... AKA Playing more like it. lol
It is a complete blast to ride. Only thing I need to do is adjust the derailluer it misses 2 nd gear unless you push the shift lever a bit farther so a minor adjustment is all. Very happy.

there are a few vids of this bike on you tube, but not many, i think the speed can be unlocked also!
i think they look cool, my buddy has an Ecotric folder for a year with no issues.

There are a few more vids on them now, I now have 110 miles on mine and love it. I did unlock the speed. I did have a bad motor controller, but ecotric sent me out a new controller warranty and now no issues . I look forward to everyday to ride that thing.

One month on the Ebike ecotric Hammer pic shows 175 miles when the pic was taken I now have 257 miles and tons of fun. Also took it on a camp trip, and added my old broke in Brooks B67 saddle.

Thanks , AguassissiM, A couple guys around the neighborhood now have ebikes and we plan to do a range test as one guy says his Ebike will get 50 miles to the charge but I don't think it will. So the bet is a 6pack . haha

Just a little update on the ecotric Hammer now have 357 miles and still going strong, I was a bit concerned that it might have been a lemon since I did have to replace the motor controller a couple days in, but ecotric sent me the part and a friend of mine helped with install and all has been great since then. So I will have to say Ecotric seems to be pretty good and even a couple neighbors have now bought an ebike, they spent way more than I could afford but so what. I say. Beer is beer hahaha

hi do you know what the specs of the motor controller on the hammer are. looking to get extra battery, but need to know specs of controller. econtic says its limited by 22ah, is this correct. so if I put in a 48v 25ah battery will it cut off.

The Hammer is a blast to ride. I've had it One year and 750 miles, riding 15 to 20+miles a ride/charge about once a week. I ride flat ground 95% of the time. Did I say it was a blast to ride, in traffic, bike paths or trails. I have to remind myself not to smile so much to keep the bugs off my teeth.

At 750 miles I've noticed a significant reduction in the range, what was 20+ is now dead at 15miles. It's a long way home pedaling the Hammer with no power.
I've contacted Ecotric tech support and they say 30% loss in range/capacity per year is normal "wear" of the battery!
So you can expect the battery to be useless in three years if you ride it to the end of life. Most likely you'll need to replace it after the first 2 years as then it has less than 1/2 the original range/capacity.

That said... I need a battery 48v 13ah (or more ah) to fit the Hammer. Ecotric's solution is a $400+ battery replacement. Ouch, that's $200 a year to keep riding with decent battery life. (Who would ride with a 2+ year battery that had less than 60% of the original capacity left)

I'm I stuck with a $400+ battery replacement from Ecotric or has anyone found a better way?

I understand, cold bad for batteries, but I live in Oxnard CA. Lowest temp when riding is upper 60s. Highest temp was mid 80's.
I've dealt with Ecotric tech support before when the PAS stopped working and it was not a happy ending.
Tech support basically said they don't support PAS anymore. It took many emails to anyone I could find at Ecotric before someone would send a new Controller and even then, they said the PAS was not an option anymore. I never installed it.
I'm not sure your experience with rechargeable batteries, but what I've seen is once they start not holding a charge, totally dead comes quickly. Also it Feels like the pack has a bad cell, when it reaches 2 bars it's not long before the display goes blank. I've got less than 100 charge cycles on the pack.
I believe if I keep riding this way the battery will be dead before the 18 month warranty is up and then, maybe, Ecotric will replace it. But how much fun is riding a battery to death? Every trip will be shorter than the last and you better make sure to be near home before it dies, peddling a 80 pound bike is slow, makes the way home not much fun.
Maybe a rack mounted battery would be better, a 48v 20ah on ebay is not much more than $100 which make Ecotric's $400 48v 12ah look way too expensive.

Ventura County, in California, doesn't sound really cold. I see about 30% drop in capacity if the battery is close to freezing.

In perspective, other bigger name bike sellers charge $600-800 for batteries. While Ecotric does use a third party generic battery, you can buy them from someone else and save maybe 100 bucks. You do want to avoid the real cheap batteries. That 48V 20AH $100 wunder battery, take my word for it, it's junk, 6AH at best.

Does your Hammer still uses this pack, it's called a Silverfish.

Anyway, there are lots of 48V silverfish packs. The two variables that matter are first, the bottom connector has to match. Some makers flip the polarity on the pins. Disaster if it happens. The second is the battery height, because of the way the battery locks onto the frame bracket, but the packs are often sold with the right bracket. Here's a listing just for reference. I have no idea of quality.

If it were me, I'd contact Unit PAck Power, another ebay seller and ask them to quote on a 48V15-17AH Silverfish using Samsung GA cells. I've had them sell me two generic packs with the Samsung upgrade. Costs more. Makes quite a difference.

FYI. I own the 20" 36V Ecotric fat tire folder. Inexpensive bike, but pretty good for the $700 it cost me.

Yes I still have the OEM SH-DC005A-MB Battery. Thank you for Naming it Silverfish, that's Good search info.
Yes I have to agree the quality of the battery is at issue here, this maybe just a cheaper unit and, as you say, not the best.
Have you rack mounted these batteries on your bike or did you get it to fit in the OEM location?
I have been a electronic tech my entire career (recently retired early) so even building a battery pack is not out of the question, There appears to be cell packs already built available everywhere, that I could do, I just have to get the right pack. More research to do.
