A few week ago I turned my bike on and heard a pop afterwards nothing the bike would not turn on at all. I tried a new screen and it turned on but the only thing that works is the walk mode, if i kept going through the different displays it would take me to one that I belive is an error page It said error 08(shown in pics) which the manual says is a turn malfunction but I couldnt find any information. I bought a new controller which said it is a KT system I tried that even with a screen specifically for KT systems but the bike doesnt turn on. Im not sure what to do so any help would be appreciated.

Strange that walk mode works, but nothing else. The pop you heard most likely came from the controller. If the pop came from the battery, then I would expect nothing to turn on.

With WaterPlugs, it can be hard to find replacements as the pinouts (from the controller) need to match and there isn’t any standard. So you may find yourself buying multiple cables in hopes of getting the right one.

You say that you got a KT controller and display, but were they from the same vendor? Some vendors like to flash their own firmware so even though they are a KT controller and KT display, they may not work as expected.

Good part is, your motor, and most likely the battery, are good. So it’s just a matter of replacing the controller and display and matching up the wires, not by color, but by function. That’s the hard part.

Can you share a link to the display and controller that you’ve bought?

But the bigger question remains. Where did the fault come from? How was the bike stored before this happened?

,.. It said error 08(shown in pics) which the manual says is a turn malfunction but I couldnt find any information.

A "turn malfunction" might be a way of describing a PAS sensor malfunction?

If the PAS sensor is not working, you will get no power assist, but you should still have walk mode.

I suppose it could make a popping sound if it were to "blow up" electrically?
If you were pedaling it at the time, it could have been a mechanical popping sound if it got jammed and ripped apart.

If you heard a "pop", when you turned the power on, then you most likely had an electircal explosion. A 'pop' to your ears, but an explosion nonetheless. A wire connection, capacitor, diode, fuseable link, etc. First, you need to find the thing or component that exploded and replace it. It is most likely visible upon close inspection. It may explode again, which means the explosion is a symptom of some other power delivery problem.

Neither screen that you linked has any advertising copy that says "KT: in the amazon listings. They don't look like KT displays to me, KT numbers them LCD1, LCD2, etc. I happen to own the LCD1, LCD3, LCD7 and LCD9 models. KT displays only work with KT controllers...

It turns out most displays use the same pinout connector, whether it's flat JST or a waterproof Julet. so they will power up and fool you into thinking they work.

^^^ What he said.

A KT controller should have the model number start with KT-

All KT displays should have the model number start with KT- as well.

As far as I understand it, a KT controller only works with a KT display, and vice-versa.

The newer (and more expensive) displays allow you to adjust the cadence sensor input so that any cadence sensor works with the KT controller/display.
(I think that might be the issue with your non-KT display?)

First, you need to find the thing or component that exploded and replace it.

It was most likely the OP's controller that popped, and it has been replaced.

The battery and motor are working because the ebike functions in walk mode.
There's not much else that can "Pop" on an ebike.

I think a proper KT display will get the ebike running?

All cadence sensors are basically the same.
It's just magnets on a disk that rotate past a hal sensor.
This tells the controller that you are pedaling and the controller starts to apply power to the motor.

There can be any number of magnets on the cadence sensor disk, and they can be arranged N-S or S-N.

A proper KT display allows you to adjust the input, so that your motor doesn't start when you pedal backwards, and a certain amount of forward crank rotation is required before the power is applied.
This helps to prevent the power from being applied accidentally.

PS,.. Always have a brake pulled while you are stopped. This always kills the motor, and keeps you from rolling too.
(Assuming you have brake switches, which you probably do.)

PSS,..
The KT controller/display are AWESOME!!!
They have imitation torque control which allows you to control the power output.
You can set your controller to 3 stage power ramp up so it doesn't go to full power and lurch you forward in PAS modes or "Throttle Gears".

I have never seen KT controllers or displays on ebay. I may be blind, but I have looked.

I checked the link to the controller and they all say KT in the model number.
The OP didn't say which which one he picked.

I did a search and Ebay does have KT displays as well,..

@ninjabannana
Buy a KT-LCD display, Not an LED display.

I don't think you can adjust the settings (program it) on an LED display?
(Plus they look like they belong on an exercise bike from the 70's. 😂)

Let's stay with the KT controller for a minute. You're using the 1-4 harness that was already on the bike? I believe those tend to be universal, So throttle, brakes, and display should connect. When you get the proper display,. you should be able to powerup and ride again. That assumes the PAS connector is the same as on your old controller.

Meanwhile, you put a new display on the old controller. This was the same type of display that was already on the bike? It must have neem or walk mode wouldn't work. Pedal assist is dead. Does it have a throttle? That's dead too? Sounds like a controller problem. If you have a voltmeter, and are handy with it, you could check the PAS and throttle connectors connector for voltage, but I think there's a good chance it's broke. Pops are pretty sinister warnings.

Based on the serial number in your picture, that is not a KT controller.

Good point.
I just noticed this,..

My KT installation has no blue Julet connectors (4 pin)

I think that the OP needs a 1-4 or 1-5 harness.

My KT display connector is a 5 pin green connector.

My 1-5 harness is 9 pin with a headlight output and yellow/orange 3 pin brake cut-off connectors to run a brake light.

Screenshot_20231122-173844_AliExpress.jpg

The 1-4 harness is 8 pin with red 2 pin brake cut-off connectors.

Both the harnesses have a 5 pin display connector.

I changed the mosfets on the original controller and the pedal assist now works It has cut out one or twice but started working again after a while the last time i used it, it seemed okay. However the throttle still doesnt work, I tried a new thumb throttle but that also didnt work.

See if +5 Volts is being fed to your throttle.

Try swapping the positive and negative wires on your new throttle.

From the wire out the controller where the throttle plugs in i get no readings

Follow that wire into the controller and check for +5V on the circuit board where they attach. (check for voltage between all 3 wires)

If you have voltage going into the wire from the circuit board then replace the wire.

If you don't have +5V on the circuit board, then you probably need to replace a transistor or triac circuit.

You should have +5V on the circuit board because your display is on.

Hi I’m new to the before I start I just want to say if I am in the wrong forum I apologize and could you guide me to the righ forum
im a new rider I ordered a hub kit off Amazon from NBPOWER a 72volt 2000watt wheel and hub.72v 20amp triangle battery. The Acceleration from zero to 9mph is pitiful then at 9mph the torque kicks in and it gets going… the top speed is 28-30mph. I’m under the impression that this 2000 watt bike is theoretically able to do a minimum of 38-40mph….ive been working with them and have not got anywhere…Im ready to throw this one aside, could any one recommend a26 inch 2000watt wheel with 135 knock outs.
thanks in advance
chris
