Ebike For Hills

I need an ebike for uphills. I want to use throttle only when going uphill. Looking for a class 2 ebike, 20 or 28mph in PAS and 20 mph throttle(USA Law). Must be 750w ebike(USA Law). Looking near the $1000 mark. What do you recommend?

Are you ever at the top or you just go up?
Sry couldn’t resist ... need a big battery whatever you get.. I guess depending on the hill you are climbing

You’re not going to find an ebike that performs that way for under a grand, a few hundred more and you might consider a RadRunner and swap out the stock controller for the 35a controller & display upgrade from Bolton ebikes or electrobikeworld

You'll be hard pressed to find something under a grand!

I recently bought a Paselec G9 for 860 shipped. It does great in the mtns. Has a 500w geared hub motor, 48v/13ah battery.

Good luck with your search!

Recommend you review your budget....

There are many ebikes that can take the hills. I ride in the Adirondack Mountains. From my experience the two most important features for ebike hill climbing are the motor and battery. My 250w Evelo motor is inadequate for steep hills, even with the throttle, while my 500w Mongoose motor takes the hills with ease, as does my wife’s iZip which has 350w. My advice is to get at least a 350w motor and a throttle.

Battery capacity is important not just for distance but also to provide more power to the motor, especially for hills without draining down quickly.

A bunch of us helped, or tried to help a guy recently that purchased a low budget bike that was junk. We advised him about how very expensive buying junk is. Then he didn't listen and purchased another junk bike and is now whining about it. Please do your research and do not burn a pile of money on something low grade that does not function well.

Try a "Maxfoot" 26 cruiser or step thru$1300, 750 watt bafang geared hub motor fat tires battery around 13 ah , disc brakes,I had one , never let me down wished I would have kept it, why not pedal a little going uphill? This bike would take you up the steepest hills in pas 3 in 3rd or 4th gear if you were adding to the motor.
The bike was heavy though 82# perhaps that was why it was so comfortable,Even had on board lights- good for the money.

If you want to climb a hill with throttle only, you don't want a bike, you want an escooter or emotorcycle, IMHO. Your problem is going to be that most, maybe all, bikes that have a throttle and are inexpensive, have hub drives. These just don't have the stuff it takes to get up bigger hills, especially on throttle only. You go slower up a hill, so you put the motor in its most inefficient speed range, so it overheats.

You need to look for a mid drive motor that will allow the motor to work in a better speed/power range, but I don't know if there are any mid drives that will allow you to not pedal.

OTOH, if your hills aren't very long (maybe a short city block or so?) then most anything might work. When I think of hills, I think of the ones outside my door, several hundred feet of elevation change over 1/4-1/2 mile, or worse.

Sorry Bike7777, when reading your post, I missed the word "only", referring to the throttle. That changes things that I mentioned previously. Regarding the hills I ride, and possibly the ones you will ride, there may not be an ebike that can climb them with throttle only. You might want to test drive a 1000w model, which has about as much available power as I've seen.

Thanks for replying. I am still searching for an ebike. Why a 35Ah controller and display upgrade?

Thanks for replying. I am still searching for an ebike. How much torque does your bike have?

The RadRunner 1 is a single speed and not geared for climbing hills, but it does have a reasonably powerful hub motor with performance that can be unlocked by swapping out the stock 20a controller for a 35a 3rd party controller. Swapping out the controller entails swapping out the display is necessary

Thanks for replying. I am still searching for an ebike. I might need to use pedal assist on the highest help power if I do not find an ebike with only throttle assistance. How much torque on the Maxfoot ebike?

Thanks for replying. I am still searching for an ebike. Any recommendations on an escooter or emotorcycle? Interesting point, with a mid-drive motor a person is forced to pedal. Your thoughts of hills, is correct in my situation, so it looks like I might need to get an escooter or emotorcycle so that I can use throttle only.

Thanks for replying. Seems like I need to find an ebike with some gears.
