Dreaded Error code 500 after 18000+km. Can I just swap a motor?

There are motors for sale on ebay. Can I just swap one and will it work? Or do I need to reprogram the controller? Do I need a dealer to do it?

My motor lasted 18000km. One bearing swapped about 3 years ago, but otherwise problem free.

I opened it, cleaned all the contacts, and cleaned up a bearing while I was there. But still no luck. I think she fried something.

It will work. Unless you have eShift and get one for Derailleur.

You cannot reprogram it. Only a few people or the manufacturers can do that.

You can replace it yourself if you have the tools.
If you asking about programming, the dealer cannot reprogram it.

But still no luck. I think she fried something.

If it is a Generation 2 motor, try soldering the bridge on the PCB. That often fixes it.

A Bosch dealer could reprogramme the BDU based on the image which would come from the old BDU if they could read out the system. (I ve done this a few times to many handling dealer support) Ir if the system is entirely not connecting to the bosch pc interface the brand send an image of the corresponding software container to the dealer which the brands customer support could instal onto the BDU. And the local Bosch dealer support could also shoot the container into the BDU in a forced wat.

So that would be doable if you could find an exact match in BDU.

Dealer should also be able to diagnose the issues in the BDU

It's a Gen 2 Performance Line with the Intuvia display. I'd replace with the same model of motor, or maybe a Gen 2 speed if that's possible. What I meant by "reprogram it" was whether the display and the motor need to be paired somehow.

The motor and intuvia are able to talk to each other. I only get the error on the display when connected to the motor.

I have the tools and I'm comfortable with soldering. I'm not sure where the "bridge" is. Is it the smaller board that sits directly over the brass motor spindle? There was bubbling (of flux?) near the power transistors. I cleaned that and don't see anything else obvious. The transistors don't appear to be burnt.

Is it possible that the error is "latched" somewhere, and that I need a special procedure to clear it.

Any BES2 motor works with any BES2 display. If it is an Active Line, you can even make it more powerful than a CX by adding 2 510 Ohm resistors in the right place if you want to.

Excellent. Thanks. I saw a video that showed that wire, but didn’t show what to do with it. I will attempt that next weekend and get back with the result.
You wouldn’t by chance have a circuit diagram, where I could see what that does?

No. But it does fix it most of the time.
