Do You Wear A Cap Underneath Your Bicycle Helmet?

I wear a helmet when I ride my bicycles, but I have never worn a cap underneath. I am considering it, however.

Here in sunny SoCal, I often carry a fold-up baseball cap to keep the bright sun out of my eyes at long stops. At times, have been tempted wear it under my helmet when a low sun blinds me to what's ahead.

Nothing safe about riding blind of course, but never did for fear of reducing the helmet's protection — and not just the MIPS part. Wonder if that's been studied?

A cycling cap under the helmet is good for bald people or for people who sweat a lot. As the pro peloton wears cycling caps, I don't think the MIPS is much affected (or, perhaps at all).
I wear balaclava in the cold season but prefer a better ventilation in the summer, so no cap.

In winter, if it’s cold, I wear a watch cap or balaclava under the helmet. In summer, I wear a cotton cycling cap which (as Stefan mentioned) is really just for sweat.

I always wear a cap. The little peak is ideal (what it's designed for) for keeping winter sun out of eyes and blocks rain off my glasses - while still being able to see around it. If cold I have a selection of woollen Belgian style winter cycling caps to keep my ears snug. If a lot of sun in the summer I'll wear a baseball cap, on the flat bars bikes, as better for keeping sun off, but on drops the baseball peak is too big when I'm lower and forward, so I just use one (of many!) cycling caps.

I ride in the southwest and have a Bell Sixer helmet without anything under in warm/hot temps. I wear a balaclava in winter and a skull cap in chilly late fall/early spring weather.

No cap. I couldn't find a helmet big enough to fit properly if I wore one. I use an oversize visor to handle low sun angles.

At the risk of looking like an idiot, I wear earmuffs, even when the temp is in the 70s. They hold my earbuds in place and keep the wind noise down. I do get weird looks when I take my helmet off......

I have "Cat-Ears" on my helmet for riding. They seem to help and no issues with heat like earmuffs. I usually don't ride +21 mph (mostly in the 12-18 mph range). I don't like to ride with ear buds because too many people are "zoned out" with them on the walk, jog, and riding trails.

I was looking at the Cat-Ears but haven't bought them yet. I think I couldn't decide which ones I wanted. Until lately I never used earbuds, but I now use SIRIUS Radio to try and extend the distance on my daily "exercise" related rides (mostly local streets). I do have a mirror and a Garmin Radar so I am pretty aware of the traffic approaching me.

Nothing plugging or covering your ear canals, so all ambient sound comes through. For me, that's an essential safety feature on a bike. Sound quality's plenty good enough for riding.

Have only a few places I consider safe for riding with music near home. But I really enjoy pedaling in sync with the right music.

Only below 20 F, I wear a welder's helmet liner. It covers my ears. My Fox Rampage helmet has plenty of ventilation. I wrap the mouth hole in plastic below 20 F.
With all the vents, sweat does not drip from my hair in good weather. Below 96 F.

I have a Giro helmet, known for their extra large sizes. I often wear a soft visored cap (no buttons on the top) to keep the setting sun out of my eyes later in the day, While I have never fallen on it, I suppose I should get a new helmet soon,

I bought a Giro with a visor that was inadequate. I cut my own from 1.2mm polypropylene. (I rounded the corners after taking the photo.)

One night last year I saw my neighbor on his porch and rode onto the sidewalk to talk with him. Still in the saddle, I reached down with a toe toward the lawn, which was hidden in shadow. That spot was lower than expected. My toe found no support until I'd tipped past the point of no return. The helmet saved me from a mouthful of dirt, but the visor extension dug in before the visor fastener popped loose. I resnapped the fastener, brushed the dirt and grass of the extension, and all was well.
